The interesting thing with all of those is that the actual enjoyment of music doesn't really factor in. Snobs break their music down to a science. Hipsters will only listen to their music if it's obscure. Zombies will only listen to music if it's popular.

Then you aren't really a hipster by this article's definition.  Remember, they're not using "hipster" in the traditional sense.  The author is just using the term "hipster" to describe a certain type of music fan.

Well I think the thing about this is that most of the people that fit into these categories still enjoy music a lot. Saying that "the enjoyment of music isn't a factor" is just incorrect. Hipsters "enjoy" their music if it's obscure, snobs "enjoy" breaking it down into a science, and zombies "enjoy" listening to popular music. IF people are enjoying their music, who really cares.

I guess what I'm saying is that enjoyment of music is not top priority. Top priority is screening it to make sure it meets a criteria. Only if it meets that criteria (obscure enough, popular enough, etc.) will people let themselves enjoy it.

Interesting point.  I guess the question is whether enjoying the screening out/discovery of obscure stuff etc. is really "enjoying music" or if it's just enjoying the "process".  Maybe it's just a semantics argument, but I think I probably lean more towards agreeing with you that when I think of somebody "enjoying music" I generally think it means actual enjoyment of the music itself, and not so much enjoyment of the screening process or the fact of listening to underground/obscure music in and of itself.
