Mac Halp Plz
« on: October 03, 2011, 03:15:13 AM »
Okay, so I knew I needed to free up some space on my MacBook (been getting the "running out of disk space" message recently- I have a ton of pictures and crap) but just hadn't gotten around to it yet... well, tonight I was doing a bunch of things at once and started getting the message that said I didn't have enough space to run all the programs I had going (only Safari, TextEdit and Finder  :lol). So I tried closing stuff, which didn't work, and then the computer just totally froze on me and I wasn't able to do anything at all (this has never happened to me as far as I can remember; usually I can at least shutdown/restart but nothing happened when I hit the power button). So I just closed it and left it alone for a while. When I opened it up a while later, it made that little sound it always makes when I open it up, except the screen stayed black and nothing happened when I tried to hit the power button :(

Any help would be appreciated since I'm pretty clueless about this crap and the searches I've done so far haven't provided much.

Have you tried holding it down for a few seconds?

Yeah. Shit was still running but refused to turn off so I took the battery out and now it just turned on. We'll see what happens...

You took the battery out of your Macbook? How the bloody hell did you do that? I thought you either had to be a technical wizard, or send it to Apple to get the battery removed...

Yeah that's one of the previous generation macbooks, without the aluminium unibody. Here's the help page for those with the unibody: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3371

So theoretically, when the battery in my Macbook goes kaput, I can just buy a new battery, and install it myself without needing to buy a new computer?

I was going to start a new thread but found this one from almost 12 years ago. So, why not? lol

Guys, I have a MacBook, and I have NEVER deleted the cache and cookies, I know I can do partially that on safari, chrome, and Firefox, BUT, I also know there's a specific folder for the cache. Is it safe to delete the entire content inside that folder?

What do you do? Any advice is appreciated.

Yeah, it should be fine to delate any of the cache folders. Worst case scenario the app will recache the files it needs.
