Octavarium or Breaking All Illusions

Simple question. The epic title track or the climax of ADTOE?

Far From Heaven as introduction is optional

Breaking All Illusions

I'm not as crazy over Octavarium as most fans are. Still a great song though.

I loved Octavarium so much when it was the new epic, and for a while after the album came out, but then it became old since I listened to it so much. The weeks leading to ADTOE's release saw the magic return in the song and I love just like I did way back when. It was a tough choice but I went with Octavarium

Octavarium for me, although they're both great songs. I really like BAI, but it's not one of my favourites on ADTOE.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Octavarium might be the greatest thing DT has ever created.

But as far as overall albums go, ADTOE is millions of miles ahead lol

I'm not the biggest fan of Octavarium (still in top 10, though), so BAI by a fair shot.

BAI for me, though 8vm is an awesome song. i don't know, there's something else in BAI that stuns me everytime I listen to it.

I've always felt that Octavarium was kind of patched-together and that it didn't flow very smoothly from section to section.  Most of the changes are very abrupt and jarring, and the introduction could have been about 1/4 as long as still made its point.  So my vote goes to Breaking All Illusions, which I think is a vastly superior song.

While Breaking All Illusions has some truly kickass individual moments, it just doesn't slaughter me in the emotional and majestic way that Octavarium does. Of course, the latter has the edge of being twice as long as the former, and is therefore able to give each idea room to breathe. There's more "beauty" in Octavarium than in BAI (namely, Someone Like Him, Medicate and Razor's Edge). Also, I'm a fan of OTT climaxes, so Razor's Edge > BAI's ending.

I actually think that Octavarium flows very well, but I can see how it taking so long to get going can be somewhat of a turnoff for someone.  The song never really reaches "Holy crap, this is awesome" status until very deep into the song (as opposed to something like ACOS, which is awesome from start to finish).

Breaking All Illusions is pretty killer, although it is not my favorite from ADTOE.  It is still pretty early to say where it would rank for me, but I suspect it will end up in about the same tier where Octavarium is right now (just outside of my top 20).

Octavarium is a top 3 song for me. I think the way it gets going is perfect. Very ominous and, for lack of a better term, epic. BAI is freaking great in that, being about half the length, packs a tighter punch and is just so damn musical and fun. But Octavarium is one of my loves, and it will win. Always.

Octavarium is my favorite song by DT. While BAI might be one of my favorites off the new album, it just doesn't come close to beating Octavarium at least for me.

Octavarium.

BAI is incredible and probably a top 5 track. But 8VM just has something special, only Metropolis and LTL better it IMO.

Went with "Breaking All Illusions". Yeah I know, I'm pretty surprised too, but being half the length of "Octavarium", it really gives a harder punch to me. 8VM is a slow-cooker and I need to be in the mood to listen to it, usually after listening to the rest of the album before it. BAI can just be popped in at anytime and I can enjoy it.

Octavarium was my first NEW DT album after I became a fan, so I have a special place in my heart for that album, and it has aged pretty well with me, but I will admit that there have been some really good DT songs SINCE then, and BAI edges out the title track of 8VM.

Not a huge fan of Octavarium compared to BAI. That opinion is not universal. Octavarium certainly isn't bad, but the lyrics alone make BAI a surefire winner. Not huge on MPs approach of stringing a bunch of song titles together for lyrics...

What's with the plethora of polls regarding some DT songs/albums Versus anything ADTOE related? Do we really need an Awake vs ADTOE, SFAM vs ADTOE, SDOIT vs ADTOE, Images vs ADTOE, WDADU vs ADTOE, BAI vs Octavarium, Far From Heaven vs a random selection of DT ballads, Home & TGP and something else ADTOE related that I can't remember, etc...
Is this really the only discussion we can all make? Comparing every aspect of this album one by one with every moment of DTs past catalogue?  :|

Hey, don't blame me.  It had been three days since darkshade's Awake vs. ADTOE thread/poll, and I figured doing the 6DOIT one would be cool, and then someone else would do another once that one died on.  It's not my fault that everyone decided to blitz us all with four or five more of them in the same day. :lol

Octavarium is great, and definitely a top 10 song. However, so is BAI. I voted for the latter.

Octavarium by a long shot! I think BAI is an ok song. Not even close to my favorite on aDtoE.
But aDToE does blow the album 8vm out of the water.
