Pink Floyd's DSOTM Immersion set - Anyone get it?
« on: September 28, 2011, 07:19:48 AM »
So, yesterday was a huge Pink Floyd release day.  I was wondering if anyone picked up the DSOTM Immersion set?  If so, what do you think?  It's something I definitely want to pick up.  I just don't have $110 to spare right now.  Everyone over at a PF site I frequent has gone gaga over it.  I'd just like to hear about it from some people outside the FLOYD internet community.

Wish You Were Here comes out in November.  The Wall comes out in February.  At least they spaced them out a little to give people some time to save up.

As good as these remasters sound, I can't help but think everything about these is a total cash grab. I really don't like it.

This. My friend got the boxset + all the remasters and said that they sound great. I love when bands do boxsets and stuff, but... well, I won't be buying it. So many bands are re-releasing everything, and it's more or less the last hurrah for the CD format.

The blu-ray on the WYWH boxset is super tempting though. Hope that gets an eventual separate release.

I don't see it as such. PF is one of the few bands that I would get a box-set for.

It definitely is a cash grab. How many other times have these albums been remastered?

The remasters aren't what's important to me, the live stuff and the 36 page Storm book is really what I'm going for.

I was at the store dicking around today (didn't buy anything) and I saw the immersion boxset for 110€ and the discovery remasters for 200€... not happening anytime soon. I'll probably eventually get the DSOTM, WYWH and Animals vinyls and call it a day, not that big of a PF fan anyway.

The same argument could be said for SW stuff as well as the new DT boxset except with those two I don't care enough to spend $110

Of course it's a cash grab.  But why is that a problem?

Too expensive. I think these box sets are great ideas, and I understand the type of fan that is being targeted with them. But way too rich for my blood.

I just don't think I'd get enough use out of the set, nor would I listen to all the different mixes as often to justify the cost.

I would love to own this. Unfortunately I don't have a sound system that would do those high resolution audiophile mixes justice which makes me buying it pointless. Shame really. :'(

I was thinking of picking up a few of the new remasters of some of the albums that I don't have yet, but the 'regular' editions are in shoddy cardboard-sleeve thingies. Ugh, I hate those things.

If I want something resembling a decent case, I'd need to get the $20 and up versions.  :P

WHERE THE FUCK IS ANIMALS.

THIS. I would buy Animals in a heartbeat, it is one of my favorite albums ever. And imagining it in 5.1.... AHH!

Also, The Wall doesn't include the blu-ray 5.1 which is a total rip off. So if anyone is planning on buying that... just be aware of that.

I was in Best Buy and had it in my hands, wanting to buy it, but finding it hard to justify pulling the trigger. Back on the shelf it went. Serioulsy, how many different versions of the same album does one really need? I don't think the extras were enough to justify the price. Had it been about $50 or so cheaper, it would be on my shelf. I will grab the "Experience" 2CD edition at some point.

And while on the subject of these remasters, I have another issue. Between the DSotM and WYWH sets, we get an almost complete 1974 show (as of now, the encore of Echoes is not available). Instead of using them as bonus tracks on separate releases, why not just offer that show, in its entirety, as its own release?

Complaint number 2 - the catalog box set. Why aren't at least the "Experience" versions included. So you can buy the Discover box set and STILL need to buy three more copies of the same album if you want those extras. Terrible packaging decisions.

It will be a sad day when albums are no longer released on CD.

I want something physical in WAV format, with a box and a booklet to look through and a DVD with extra features.
