I have only listened to Heritage by Opeth so I'm not sure what to expect from Akerfeldt but as long as there are no Death Metal vocals I will probably like this.

Only a month away, no promo, no tracklist, no leak...perhaps this is a good thing that they are keeping such a low profile.

What I've gotten from most of the interviews is that there are drums but most of the album is without them. I'd bet that even when there are drums it's going to be pretty minimal though.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with having no drums but the way I read it was - there was only percussion on it by tapping guitars and doing pick noises and such...

It's always funny when people start reacting to something they haven't even heard yet. No matter how much Steven Wilson describes the album beforehand, I'll still be clueless to how it sounds until I have actually heard it, and I can't really have an opinion before that.

From what I gather the album's gonna have the dark orchestral moments from GFD, with the spacey, "room to breath" vibe of Heritage.

Cool to hear more about Storm Corrosion, less excited to hear that SW's stepping out of Blackfield and giving Aviv full reign eventually, but if he can't do it he can't do it.

Like SW says himself, I think people give Aviv way too little credit for what he does with Blackfield, and thinks that SW is 90% of the whole thing. Even if SW wouldn't help with the album at all, I'm still sure it would sound like Blackfield.

I mean SW flat out had said he had very little to do with the last album, I just think it's a case of his voice being on too many of the tracks for people to realize what little role he actually had.

Errrrr guys Wilson didn't step back really at all - the vast majority of I and II were written by Geffen too. Sure, lyrics were more often penned by Wilson, but that's not what people complained about (mostly) on DNA, (track 2 aside).

great interview, though i'm one of those people who doesn't really care about what SW thinks of Spotify and religion, etc. – i'd rather he discuss music a lot more, but he's obviously at the mercy of the interviewer.

very curious about the new long piece they will be debuting live, though.
