It's definitely not weird, at least not for my standards. But it's great, and that all that matters really.

I expected it to be weirder, so I don't quite get some of the "its too weird"-criticism. Even though it's unlike what both Wilson and Åkerfeldt has done before, I still feel like the music has characteristics from their different projects, and there are a few acoustic guitar-sections that reminds me of Opeth, and a few darker sections that remind me of Wilson.
Opinions I guess, though I recommend people to listen to it several times. While I enjoyed the first spin of the album, it took maybe 4-5 spins for it to click another step, and now I really like it.  :hat

I've tried multiple listens, but I get so bored :C
Unlike Heritage, where there was some songs that I adored, and it grew on me from there, with this album, there's not a song that I can jump into and enjoy.

This. For some reason I expected it to be like Comus. But it's not.

This for me as well. It isn't very weird at all. Its just beautiful.

I can't say I found it particularly weird either.

The only thing that bothers me about the production (and SW's production in general really) is the high end. The clean electric guitar solo on Storm Corrosion hurts my ears. It sounds a bit distorted to me. There are similar problems on Arriving Somewhere, Track One, etc. I dunno if my ears are just very sensitive to things like this, but SW is the only artist I can think of I've encountered this problem with. Anyone else experience this? I don't think I've ever read this complaint from anyone so I'm a bit curious.

Really? I love his clean guitar sound. It does have a little bit of distortion, but that's what I love about it.

Yeah I was about to post that. I haven't listened to Storm Corrosion yet but in the rest of the examples you mentioned I find nothing wrong with it. In fact, I *love* his tone, the solo in Arriving probably has my favorite guitar tone by any band.

the album has parts that sound very much like Wilson and Åkerfeldt, .

This x infinity. I heard Drag Ropes and it sounds exactly like a Wilson Akerfeldt collaboration. You've got Wilsons, ambience mixed with Akerfeldts Tone.

The best part I enjoy is the Harmonies. Man, i'm really getting into multi vocal harmonies like the one in Drag Ropes.

After a few more spins I must say that the album is really good. Don't get the negative feedback, I feel like the album offers lots if interesting ideas and good songs, to me it just feels like "it isnt Porcupine Tree or Opeth, therefor it isnt good"-bs.

Fix'deded. Thats what I feel is why people don't like it. I for one learned not to judge until I've heard the actual music from beginning to end, while listening to it as music treating it like nothing else but what it is.

Yeah, I don't dig it. I mean sure, I can understand what people like about it and what makes it a well produced album. But it just does not hold my attention even a little bit.

Oh well.

Well, just so I'm clear I don't really mean the distortion in the guitar tone itself. I'm talking more about the way it is mixed in with everything else. The audio itself seems to distort, I wasn't talking about any distortion used on his guitar itself.

Plus its Mikael playing I think, which makes me think its SW doing something in the mixing. Not sure what it is exactly though.

Listening to it for the first time, only on Hag now but I'm not loving this so far. It's not bad, it's not weird, it's just... uneventful. Some parts are great but other sections are 2-3 minutes of nothing. I think this is going to be a matter of finding the right situation to listen to it, and I can't think of one for now. I will give it at least 5 spins though before deciding whether I like it or not.

Just listening for the first time today, and I wouldn't say it's anywhere close to "too weird" (whereas The Drift is too weird for me) but it's definitely pretty fucked up. :lol

I agree. I think you mentioned the outro solo to Track One? Something about it just doesn't sound good. It need to be smoother and cleaner.

So this album is just amazing all the way through. Not sure if I like "Ljudet Innan" or the title-track the most, but the others are really great as well.

I really like Ljudet Innan, especially that final half of the song. Really gives me a Radiohead feel for some reason.

Ljudet Innan is slowly growing on me; it was originally the one song I wasn't overly fond of (I didn't dislike it, but I just liked all of the others more).

It's pretty good. I wish the outro extended the uplifting choir part, though.

I disagree I think it's a great way to close the album.

After simmering over the album, I think that it's not going to go down as a "classic" like GFD will. It's a solid debut attempt, but in five years, I don't see anyone raving about it anymore.

I still don't "get" the album which means it needs more spins
though I do like it

Ljudet Innan is incredibly though, far and away my favorite right now.

On my first listen, I really like "Storm Corrosion" and Drag Ropes was good as well. After some of the reactions places/people have had, I expected to come in and be disappointed but so far at least I like it, although I did really like Heritage compared to some people...

Overall I agree though that I hope they don't continue down this path and go back to their old style of music, at least somewhat.
