I'm psyched about the new Arjen, and I love Storm Corrosion.

YOU'RE JUST WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING.

Tahlia knows what's up.

In any case my PS3 seems to have died, which sucks on about 10 different levels, one of which is I got the Blu-Ray of the new album. I'm torn between just listening to the CD in the meanwhile, or waiting for a fix/new PS3 before listening.

If you're psyched about the new Arjen release you'll probably hate Storm Corrosion.
I'm psyched for both and getting both the same day :P

Almost through my first listen, and it's pretty much what I expected it would sound like. I like it, but I also feel like it's far too early to have a real opinion of it, I can probably have one after 5-10 spins.

After a few more spins I must say that the album is really good. Don't get the negative feedback, I feel like the album offers lots if interesting ideas and good songs, to me it just feels like "it isnt progressive, therefor it isnt good"-bs.

Such a beautiful album. Listened to it again last night and I have a newfound boner for the title track. It was slipping in the ranks thanks to Hag and Happy but it might be in the second spot behind Hag.

First listen.. this is definitely going to take a few listens to make a sound judgement! Ljudet Innan is the initial standout track for me.

Not that they were high expectations, but the album definately exceeded them.  The only negative thing I can really say about the album is that because the dynamics are pronounced (no clipping), you really need a controlled listening environment to get the album.  I tried to listen to it in the car on my drive to S. Carolina and even in my quiet as hell Prius it was noticable that some parts did were lost in the car noise.

That said, easily one of the most well produced albums I've ever heard.

Yep, this is definitely NOT a car CD.
Me likes it a lot so far.

For me at least it's nothing of the sort.  It's just that it fails to retain any of my interest, so about halfway through the first song I'm already switching to something else.  There are definitely some pretty parts, but that's about the extent of it, as they're few and far between.

I didn't mean that as something negative. I think the album has parts that sound very much like Wilson and Åkerfeldt, but it is more minimalistic in a way, and for people who want something more uptempo (or just not liking the minimalistic part) I can see their PoV.

After hearing a few tracks...this album reminds me *A LOT* of an album by Univers Zero called "Heresie" released in 1979.

At first I was sure, because I hadn't heard the UZ album in such a long time...but going back and listening to it right now, and I think there are quite a bit of similarities.

There are some differences...(the UZ album has drums)...but the "vibe" is EXTREMELY similar to my ears.    One wonders if this wasn't in "inspiration corner" for one (or both) of the artists.

THAT'S what it reminded me of! Only Univers Zero is a LOT more experimental than this. Love that band.

Just opened the package, I was kinda underwhelmed by it. The poster is not too great and the other stuff is just the normal vinyl edition plus the bluray edition with the same artwork, pictures etc. in both packages.

Hopefully I will be able to give it a listen tomorrow after I'm done with my roulette round.

My copy arrived today.

I liked Heritage, and really liked Grace For Drowning. I was hoping for something very experimental and out there. When they released the video for Drag Ropes, it lined up pretty well with what I was hoping for.

After my first listen through, I'd say it's good, but not great. A bit underwhelming. It's not as out there as I was expecting, and at times felt a bit directionless, but not in a good way.

I'll give it a few more spins over the next few days to see if it grows on me.

Me too. I dunno why, but I was expecting an actual boxset... not just the vinyl and CD put into a shipping box.  :lol That said, I do think the poster included is pretty cool. The finish on the gatefold is a nice touch as well, and I have my signed photo framed up on my wall.  :metal

Listened to the 5.1 mix earlier, nothing I can complain about there.  ;D

WAT

I don't have the signed picture yet, they sent me an email saying they would send it separately because they had some problems:

Quote
due to an unforeseen delay with the autographed poster, you will not receive this poster with your initial shipment. The signed 12” x 12” poster will be shipped to you separately as soon as possible. We will provide you with more information on this delivery as soon as we can.

Mine came a day before my boxset, actually. I would just keep checking, I got the same email but there didnt seem to be any delay in its shipping.

Just listened to Storm Corrosion for the first time. It's so good I don't even know what to make of it, but either way I'm buzzing like crazy after that.

Just gave this thing a listen and I'm not overly impressed. I mean it's fine and atmospheric and all, but it's a bit to dull to really get my attention.

Listened once.  It's okay.  More ambient than avant-garde at points and actually, well, not very avant-garde at all really.

Will have to give it some more listens, but it's probably going to be one of those things I need to be in the mood for in order to properly appreciate.
