It wasn't that great in my opinion. Moments of very beautiful music, but also incredibly underwhelming and no absolutely fantastic moments. Kind of what I expected, but oh well.

Well, first playthrough:

80% weird and not impressive
20% nice guitar awesomeness

I don't know. I'll give it another chance, but ultimately I'm not happy.

I thought it was fucking amazing. Best release of 2012 so far. I love odd atmosphericness so this is right up my alley.

Hmm pretty much what I expected - slow and ambient stuff. Not my type of music. But I'm sure you guys will love it.

I think Drag Ropes is incredibly bizarre, but the rest of the album was pretty enjoyable listening.

Wow, I really think that video was, well, too 'normal'. I love the low church bell sounds, but apart from that it was way more of a 'song' to me than I thought the album would become.

I really hoped for a really dark, droney version of Bass Communion, but with Mikael's awesomeness. And yes, I thought it to be instrumental.

Well, I guess I'll have to completely reset my expectations, and start with an open mind over again.

The album isn't out until May, so I don't know what you guys were talking about. I'm beginning my first listen of drag ropes immediately.

They should make a movie out of that music video. It would be the most insanely depressing movie of all time.

Drag Ropes was insanely cool! I really enjoyed it. I'm surprised by the drums -- I was expecting it to more or less be ambient noise the entire time, but they got really close to a rocking groove in the middle there.

Exactly all my thoughts, though I stopped the song after 4 minutes, because I don't really want to be spoiled. I have had it on pre-order for weeks now.

Wow, this is album is blowing my expectations out of the water. I am adoring every second thus far; I'm about to start Lock Howl, so I'm almost through it but I don't want it to end. This is definitely much more involved and badass than I thought it'd be. The film for Drag Ropes was really killer as well, I loved how they told an actual story instead of trying to be obscure and unique by plastering many different crazy images that really don't have much to do with the music. This however went along with the music awesomely and really brought something to the video, and visa versa; very well done, I'd like to see more videos like this. I like that style as well, the old story-book-esque play with puppets.

I'm going to need much more time with the album to have a complete opinion of it but right now I can see this easily being my favorite album to come out in the past couple years. It's everything I wanted and more. I'm especially loving the Deadwing-style backing vocals that Wilson has been doing throughout the album; along with Akerfeldts haunting, ghostly vocals, creates a very eerie, gothic feel to the atmosphere. I love it. I want more. These two men have such an amazing chemistry together and I'd really like them to work together again. I haven't even finished the album and I'm already foaming at the mouth for more. Really amazing stuff, beautifully disfigured and hauntingly sexy. Mmm... I wish it were storming, pouring rain and dark outside though. All this sun and blue sky is really fuckin' with my vibe.

For me, I'm disappointed because I'm all for atmospheric albums, but this one really doesn't keep my attention.  The whole time I'm waiting for something to just happen and sometimes it does, but most of the time it never does and I just keep sitting or walking or whatever I'm doing still waiting.  It's like the opposite of Ghost in that regards, with Ghost I'm captivated and it keeps awing me, where as this doesn't ever really do that.  Will give it a few more listens, it's nice walking weather, so maybe walking along to it will help.

Drag Ropes and Happy are standouts so far, but I haven't listened to much of the rest of the album.
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

Jesus I am in love with Ljudet Innan; Mikael's voice is so beautiful in the beginning of the song, that is some truly sexy stuff right there. Happy is probably my second favorite at this point. This is one album that is going to need much time to breath, however; for as much as I love it now, it seems like there's a lot more to discover underneath all that ambiance.

This is exactly what i wanted.

Drag Ropes is just great (vocal melodies are freaking awesome, this song really sets the mood for what's to come, even if the only song with this "theatrical feel.")

Storm Corrosion has a BIG Scott Walker feel to it, twisted in a Wilson's way which make it a standout.

Lock Howl is just fantastic, makes me think of Voyage 34 turning into the best guitar work on the album (IMO)

Ljudet Innan screams for Talk Talk, if you haven't heard Spirit of Even, you should get your hands on it right away !

So far, I am digging this more and more on every listen.  At first, it seemed a bit too samey or minimalistic, but it's like they grabbed on to a vibe and rode it for the whole drive.

I get that some will be turned off by this since it isn't what they were expecting or hoping for, but you at least have to give them mad props for doing this.  They could have easily done a project that was a hybrid of Opeth and PT, and most would have been happy, but they were more concerned with expressing their true artistic selves than making the fans happy.  That is a very easy thing to admire. :tup :tup

I'm very interested in this record, but I'm not going to listen to it until I get familiar with Opeth and Wilson's solo works. That way I'd have a better perspective on it.

That's what I love about musicians who do whatever they feel like.

Storm Corrosion, the title, sounds like being in a cloud witnessing the birth of a thunderstorm. Let's see   if the music portrays this.

It's nothing lie PT or Opeth. I'd listen to it now, it sounds nothing like either band.

I love PT,and I'd hate for them to ever break up, but if things like this is what is  to follow in the possible eventual break up of Porcupine Tree, I would have absolutely no problem with it. Astonishingly beautiful record. Unlike anything I have ever heard before. I wasn't TOO impressed with Grace for Drowning, but this is everything I hoped GFD would be when I first heard about it. Beautiful, expansive, and expanding. Mikael sounds incredible on this album, and the vocal layering is BRILLIANT! I cannot wait to show this record to people, because I'm really tempted to say this is already album of the year already.  :lol
