Weird. Amazon doesn't have samples that I can play.
They took down the samples. I'm surprised it took them so long actually.

Those god damn Amazonians.

Butsrsly, it wasn't much; if anything it'd only serve to hinder your excitement considering the samples they picked weren't exactly high points. At least I hope they weren't (the exception being Lock Howl). I'm excited for the Drag Ropes video though. This album is going to be very interesting, and even more so will be this place's reaction to the album...

As usual I won't listen because I want to go into the album with not a single second spoiled. Still, really excited about the release. :)
Yeah same, same reason I never listen to singles before the album comes out :)

Preference or not, Wilson is not a metal guy, and Opeth's music has gotten less heavy recently, so this album not being metal can't be a surprise to anyone.

Ultimately, people should just listen to it for what it is, instead of focusing on what it isn't.

Oh it doesn't surprise anyone, from what I've seen at least, I mean the whole time they've stated it wouldn't be, and while I'll probably enjoy it, I just miss Mikael being a heavy dude.  But like I said, I'll enjoy this, I mean I'm fine with mellow stuff, I just hope Opeth gets heavy again after this nice venture.

It's not surprising that Mikael's gravitated away from metal, if not because he's been playing it for over two decades, because most people mellow out as they get older. I can't even fathom how guys like Judas Priest can keep playing metal into their 50s and 60s. Anyway, Storm Corrosion sounds awesome. I'm glad Steven and Mikael made something like this.

It's pretty much what I expected it to be...mostly ambience. It's alright, I suppose. It's relaxing. One or two good songs.

Ultimately, however, a massive disappointment in my eyes. (or ears)

I don't really hear how "experimental" this is. Just sounds like the sort of mellow, ambient music Steven Wilson and Mikael Akerfeldt would make to me.  :lol I like it though.

Almost done with the second track, Storm Corrosion. It is pretty much what I expected, Soundtracky and Atmospheric.

I won't say it's disappointing, since it is what I expected. It will be something to listen to when you need something moody and mellow, but picture the mellow parts of Heritage, and the spacyness of Grace For Downing and you got Storm Corrosion.

Would have much preferred this without vocals.  I love both of their voices, but it just sounds awkward to me.

luckily, you can have the instrumental version soon ;)

i've only heard the first two songs so far. really bizarre and new for both guys, but excellent. seems like SW enjoys bringing out his Bass Communion side when he writes music with others (see No-man).

I liked it.  Its a very pretty album, no doubt, but also very strange in places.  I don't think it creates an entirely new genre or anything, but it is really cool to finally hear what these guys decided to make.  It'll definitely be an album that grows on me, I think.

It wasn't that great in my opinion. Moments of very beautiful music, but also incredibly underwhelming and no absolutely fantastic moments. Kind of what I expected, but oh well.
