Well, they've always stated that they didn't want to do something progressive in the sense that they wanted something different than another progressive rock supergroup. Nevertheless, a combination of those albums would be awesome, yes.
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

I'm very glad they're going avant-garde instead of prog metal.

Hilarious. I don't even know why I'm laughing so much. Mikael with the shades and the cigarette, SW when he asks Mikael if he could find Opeth in the bargain bin.  :lol

Really, what an awesome duo.

I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

I am definitely glad that they're doing something completely off the wall. More musicians need to do that. You can always come back to more familiar styles as well, but it's good to just let the creativity go and find yourself heading in strange new directions sometimes.

I'm not expecting to love it, but I think I'll like it. Just like Heritage.

If only they had done this collaboration circa 2005....Ghost Reveries meets Deadwing would have been amazing.
I really want something like that now.  :sadpanda:
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

They seem really giddy about it, which makes me excited. :D

Also, is that a World of Warcraft Collectors Edition behind Steven?  :lol

Orchestrial experimental music which is all over the place in a good way featuring Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt? I am confused but I feel excited.

Yep, back before both of them were making crap albums.

:neverusethis:

I kid, I kid.  I'm kind of hoping for less of a Heritage meets Grace For Drowning because I feel that would be much more interesting than Remainder The Devil's Orchard.

I'm hoping for a jazz infused technical death metal album.

If only.

I think it will have elements from Heritage and Grace For Drowning, without really sounding similar to any of them. I've listened to quite some Scott Walker over the years (he's a major influence on the album) and if it's anything like The Drift, I think some people will get creeped out, and some will love it.  :lol

Yeah, I really don't understand why people keep comparing this album to Heritage. I know it is supposed to be the third album in a "trilogy", but I don't think it will sound anything like GFD or Heritage.

Yuppies. They've both stated it's the third in an 'odd trilogy' of albums containing Steven Wilson's Grace For Drowning, Opeth's Heritage, and Storm Corrosion being the last. Obviously not a classic trilogy in the sense that they are all connected directly, but I'm assuming that's why the adjective of 'odd' is thrown in. I'm guessing it's more of a vibe and atmospheric storytelling than anything. I have a feeling that this album was randomly called a trilogy just to tie together the fact that Akerfeldt and Wilson are collaborators rather than them actually discussing the idea of a trilogy of albums whilst they made their own respective albums. Which interests me, but also draws a bit of suspicion on what their goal is with this project. Either way, I am super excitebike.

I don't think it will sound anything like either GFD or Heritage given the orchestral emphasis that the album seems to have (especially if those samples we've been hearing before those interviews are any indication); but that's a good thing. While I love both Heritage and GFD, something new would be even more amazing to connect these albums. I'm wondering though if they will use some kind of thematic element from both albums and sprinkle it over this new one to connect them. Either that or it really is quite the odd trilogy in that they have nothing in common except the fact that the musicians are the same.

Well, I was more saying that because I like what Akerfeldt has done while moving away from his standard metal roots. Not because I think it will sound a lot like Heritage.

Yeah, sounds as expected.

These two together could have been so much more than a Heritage/GfD collaboration. Call me old fashioned, but I want to listen to some fucking metal. Or, at the very least, some good progressive rock music.

As if there isn't already a ton of metal/progressive rock out there for people to enjoy. Try and create something new? Fuck that!

The samples don't even sound like a "Heritage/GfD collaberation" in the first place.

Yeah, I agree. While a Ghost Reveries/Deadwing fusion would be cool (like Gadough pointed out), personally it wouldn't excite me much. I think there are a lot of artists who play it safe and stick to one genre through their career, and I think that Steven Wilson has shown us through his projects that he is good at many different styles. Mikael Åkerfeldt has mostly only done Metal or Progressive music in that sense, so it will be very interesting to see how Mikael fits into this a bit "different" music, we all know that Wilson can do pretty much whatever he wants and get away with it.

The weirder the better is how I see it. I would love it if Mikael and Steven did an electronic album for instance.  :hat

Fucking gorgeous; this is exactly what I wanted from this project. This is a relief, I was hoping they wouldn't go too orchestral and ambiance-driven; while there seems to be plenty of that, there's also a great mixture of the classic Akerfelt/Wilson touches from their own styles. I had a slight fear that it'd be almost too melodic and mellow but tracks like Lock Howl have put that fear to rest. It all sounds magnificent!

Yeah, sounds as expected.

:lol I keep hearing these comments about a Heritage/GFD collaboration as if this is a surprise, or as if it'd be disappointing. I mean, if it is disappointing then that's fine, (opinions ollolol) but it shouldn't come as anything but completely expected. You definitely won't be getting any metal or straight-up prog-rock here, nor should you have expected anything like that given the amount of anti-metal rhetoric Wilson has been spewing recently, along with Opeth's new direction. I'm with Wilson in that I'm getting tired of metal in general; it's bored me to hell and back again. It's nice to hear something that has a bit more depth and breathing room to expand; something left to the imagination. (Not that metal doesn't have that, I don't want to start a dumbshit firefuck, I hate those).

I think I'm going to love the hell out of this album; I have a feeling this is going to blow my expectations out of the water...perhaps my new favorite thing since my fleshlight (and that's my favorite thing since portable corn). It does have touches of Wilson's solo albums and Akerfeldt's newfound style, but overall (after just finishing the sample tracks) it doesn't sound anything like a straight mixture of Heritage/GFD. With this, I'm pretty sure not only am I going to be fulfilled in that area but it also sounds like there will be some surprises in that it may be (in some areas) more hardcore than I expected. MUSICAL BONERS!

If it's in the more experimental vein I think I'll hold off on listening. The more out there approaches of these two are hard to get behind in small clips I think, and I already have it pre-ordered so I'll just wait for the full shebang.

I guess I liked what I heard, but I agree with this.  I don't know, obviously those were just samples, but they did nothing for me at all.  Just sounded like a blend of the softer moments of Heritage and GfD. :I

The samples weren't anything special, but if the album is as Wilson and Akerfeldt described it, it makes sense that this isn't an album that would take well to sampling.
