Was about to post this! Very excited!
Heres the facebook post:

"The long awaited collaboration between Mikael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) is finally being completed. The project goes under the name of 'Storm Corrosion' and will have a self-titled record out in April 2012 through a yet unnamed label. This album could be seen as the final part in the odd trilogy of records completed by "Heritage" and Steven Wilson's brand new solo album "Grace for Drowning". Yeah, I guess not as they said this is the third part to Heritage and Grace for Downing. I love that they say "will have a self-titled record out", because it implies that it is more than a once-off project and that they might continue it in the future.

I just hope after this they go onto some different styles.

I'm just a biit sick of the whole 1970s thing - Pain of Salvation, Wilson, Opeth... I mean I like the records but I don't like 3 of my top 5 artists delving into similar styles of music, especially when Opeth are my go-to heavy band.

I wouldn't hold your breathe for Opeth; with the way their setlists have been, it seems this is either a large phase of their career beginning or it will be the final phase. As for Wilson, that man has a universe in his head, I wouldn't worry about him being too static. I agree though, despite my love for both Wilson and Opeth's works recently, it'd be nice to get a change from either side on their next endeavors (PT excluded, as I'm dying to hear some experimentation from their side) except I doubt Wilson will be doing another solo project for a while after these collaborations and the massive solo he just unleashed so... I hope this kicks so much ass that they say it's the pinnacle of 70's inspired prog and then move onto...the 80's. Jay kay. I just got nauseous.

Yeah same.
Despite what many people said, I personally really liked Heritage, and Grace For Drowning is mindblowingly good as well.
If Storm Corrosion is like the third part in the trilogy or a missing link (like it was suggested), that makes me even more interested, and SW and Åkerfeldt together... 2012 might be another awesome year in music.  :hat

Here's the thing.  I like Heritage, yes I, a HUGE metal fan said that, its really good, but the thing is, I still like Opeth's metal side a tad more, and it'd feel like a waste for him to just throw that part of them away, as that side is monumental and beautiful as well.  And in all actuality his growls aren't to hard to do, as he does them correctly instead of tearing at his vocal chords as others might, and if you learn how which takes practice but isn't insanely difficult you can growl as he can :P  I've been learning for a long while.
