I really don't like the new DT, I was disappointed. There's tons of better music out there this year, so whatever.

not so much you as the people who i guarantee you went into the album with the "lolDT" mentality and didn't give it a fair chance. but it does not matter in any case.

Besides Heritage, all the other albums I've only listened to once, so I can't really rank them.

1. Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events
2. Opeth - Heritage

Unlike seemingly everyone else here, I wait for an album to come out before I start to listen to it. Okay, that's a lie, I listened to Heritage and DT before they came out, but only once! So, it doesn't really count, or something...

Dream Theater
Arch / Matheos

Opeth

I'm not loving the new Opeth album.  It's not the direction of the album, I love the retro prog sound, but it really loses steam over the second half of the album.  Twice I have had the album on and completely tuned it out sometime in the second half because it wasn't keeping my attention.  Dream Theater and Arch/Matheos are still fresher to me and I've had them longer.

Mastodon - The Hunter
Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events

These were the two I had interest in and both are IMO very good albums. I'd give ADTOE a B+ and The Hunter an A+ currently.  :metal

Jamesman, Arch / Matheos is musically very much prog metal, and the singing is...well it's John Arch, and I mean that in a positive way.  He has a unique delivery style.  If you heard any early Fates Warning, its basically like that only better than any Arch era Fates album.  I don't see you NOT liking it James.  Check out the Arch / Matheos thread for other opinions.  https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=19796.0
