Hmmmmm.... Another question for you oh master of the boots...
Very rarely do I jump on a bootleg that is not a soundboard recording. Are there any out there you would suggest I search for on the interwebz?
Definitely. The soundboards are but a tiny percentage of the more a thousand bootlegs available from the band. I suspect there's less than 100 of them around, and they are all concentrated in the past. I'm positive that the last true soundboard available was recorded in LA 19.09.2004.
But it's all about you, ultimately. Audience bootlegs are just like growls. Some people may be naturally tolerant to the sound of it, and many more must take some time to get used. While there are a few audience bootlegs that sound stunning enough to be mistaken for soundboards (and I'm going to make a short list off the top of my head of those), many others don't, but then again it's just a small percentage of them that are truly bothersome no matter how used you are to the classic bootleg sound.
Anyway, you may wish to download those amazing recordings:
- 2002.11.03 (Rotterdam) - A beast of a bootleg, perfect sound, almost official level
- 2012.07.16 (Boston) - Just about the same, terrific quality
- 2004.09.22 (Monterrey) - Another gem. It may be soundboard, but I'm not positive
- 2004.02.06 (Bologna) - Pro-like quality, plus audible (but not bothersome) audience partecipation. Check the video of Through Her Eyes in my youtube channel for a sample of this show.
- 1998.06.25 (Paris) - The show of OIALT, that was recorded by the audience and even got the clearance from MP to be shared, as the official release lacked almost a set.
- 1995.07.09 (Franenfeld) - A festival date (but with a killer setlist). Perfect sound, suspiciously so considering the setting, but I don't think it's a soundboard.
I could list others, but that's more than enough for a first batch, I guess
