Hey there!
I have been a guest in the DT fourms for about 8 or so years. I never have registered until now. What a year it has been huh!
I have been a fan of DT since 95 when ACOS came out. While i listened to a lot of music growing up it was DT that really changed my thinking what music was all about. They have been my favorite band for 15-16 years now. Everyother band that I listened to had to measure up to DT and in a strange way this is still true today. Not just in prog but in all styles of music. What I love about DT is the creativity and that is what I expect in all music.
I was saying to my buddy a couple of years ago on how I love their latest records but i felt that the music was becoming a little....predictable. I was saying maybe they should take some time off. Not a long period of time, maybe instead of releasing a album every two years like they have been for years, do it in three years. That would give them a break and be able to do some real awsome demos, take time writing.
Well we all know what happend to that. I have been a drummer since I was ten years old. I kind of gave it up until I heard DT. Mike Portnoy was my biggest influence growing up. I was shocked like all of you about the news. It's kind of funny cause I was thinking kind of like Mike in respect to taking some time off. Not that long. 3 years until a album was released and it would of been perfect. After Mike left I couldn't listen to DT for almost a year. I would listen to their solo work but not DT. It was like a big chapter was closed. Wasn't till the middle of August when I decided to put on SFAM. But I read this fourm all the time and see all news.
Since DT decided to move on I had to wait until ADTOE came out to really listen to DT again. And I tell you it is a really good DT record. Sounds fresh. Classic DT. UBMUUBMD is one of the most original sounding DT songs in a long time. Mangini is great and solid on the record. A new DT chapter has begun.
So hello fourms. I will post from time to time.
