The good thing for Steve (if one can say that) is that he died in his peak. That will make his reputation stand for a long, long time.

A - How can that be considered good in any way, shape, or form?
2 - How the hell do you know he was in his peak? Had he not died an untimely death, he might have lived another 30 or so years, probably half of which could have yielded potential innovations.
Listen! Do you smell something?

I believe both are great minds, but I have to go with Gates. His work was more revolutionary than Jobs, and generally far more important in my opinion.

Gates, because of his foundation people everywhere will be directly effected by his contributions.

Jobs only directly effects those of us in the developed world.

I don't know anything about Jobs philanthropic endeavors, but I DO know that Bill Gates has done a massive amount for charity.

I have more respect for Gates
Just edited Barry's post to describe why I voted for Gates.

ii - How do I know? It's pretty easy, actually. Was the company the day before his death at its best compared to prior years? Positive.
3 - Why are we assigning random characters and numbers to count our points?

Gates, because of his foundation people everywhere will be directly effected by his contributions.

Neither Jobs nor Gates has affected you positively in your grammar. And your logic is wrong.

oh shi- I'm clearly in the wrong there. I'm not saying that it's good that he died. We can only take for fact that he died at his peak and doing so it will benefit his legacy. That's the whole point.

To be honest, this is reason enough to vote for Gates:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_%26_Melinda_Gates_Foundation#Activities

"To maintain its status as a charitable foundation, it must donate at least 5% of its assets each year.[17] Thus the donations from the foundation each year would amount to over US$1.5 billion at a minimum."

Holy shit. Gates wins.

Apple has definitely affected people outside the developed world, just ask the Foxconn workers who killed themselves after spending 80 hours a week pumping out iPhones.

Howard Wolowitz: Raj, did you ever tell your sister about the time Sheldon got punched by Bill Gates?
Priya: Oh, God! You're kidding?
Raj Koothrappali: Nope. Gates gave a speech at the university. Sheldon went up to him afterward and said, "Maybe if you weren't so distracted by sick children in Africa, you could've put a little more thought into Windows Vista."

Sheldon Cooper: You're my 15th favorite technological visionary.
Steve Wozniak: Only 15th?
Sheldon Cooper: It's still 6 spots above Steve Jobs. I care neither for turtlenecks nor showmanship.
Steve Wozniak: Yeah, I never got that turtleneck thing.

I think they'll both be remembered about the same for different reasons.  Jobs helped bring a radical change to Hollywood animation, brought style to computers, reinvent the way most people buy music, and brought mainstream attention to the tactical turtleneck (or tactineck).  Gates started a huge-ass philanthropy organization and was behind THE standard OS on PCs that everybody knows.  If I had to give anyone the edge it would probably be Gates.

Why are people acting as if this is an either/or thing? Their respective companies are leaders in clearly separate markets. Yeah, MS tries to do phones and MP3 players, and Apple tries to do PCs, but neither one can really touch the other on their in those. Gates hasn't even really been a player in the portable tech battle, and had already established his legacy in the PC world when he left - Jobs appears to have done the same.
This. I think they will be remembered in the same fame.
