This result is definitely vomit-inducing, but not at all surprising.

90s winner thus far:

1990: Megadeth - Rust in Peace
1991: Metallica - Metallica
1992: Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
1993: Rush - Counterparts
1994: Queensryche - Promised Land
1995: Death - Symbolic
          Savatage - Dead Winter Dead
1996: Tool - Ænima
1997: Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy

Yep. Pretty much the worst outcome of any poll/survivor ever

I think Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason not only beating out The Joshua Tree in 1987 to get the finals, but tying with Appetite for Destruction for the win, is the biggest WTF thus far, but this is right there with it.

Shitty result. This poll fails miserably. It's just as bad as Queensryche beating NIN.

Just because everyone has (or is entitled to) an opinion doesn't mean their's is right... which includes the posters just above.  So you disagree with the majority of participants, that's why there's a vote.  Personally, i think Tool winning '96 is a fail with great albums like Beware of Darkness, and Christmas Eve & Other Stories.  But, this is a democratic vote.  Majority rules.  Suck it up sisters.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

One of my favorite progressive metal albums beating out when Radiohead started their long road toward becoming pretentious twits making incomprehensible music? I can live with it  :lol

Just to show website demographics differences, on Rate Your Music OK Computer is #1 of 1997 and ALL TIME and Divine Wings is #54 for 1997 and #2717 all time.
WHOA, NICE GRAPHICS!

#1 of all time for one Website that's probably a VERY different demographic.  Neat.  Your point?

"Pretentious" is the most overused word in the entire world, and I hate when people attach it to music. Just stop doing it.

Regardless of demographics/genre/whatever, it's pathetic that Symphony X is winning.

Yes.

What's pathetic about it?

Because Divine Wings is an album full of cheesy power metal(nothing wrong with that though) and OK Computer is an amazingly crafted album about sadness and society
