Lifting Shadows Off A Dream, Space-Dye Vest, Innocence Faded
(11/10. I love these songs with an absolute passion)
Voices,6:00, The Mirror
(10/10. I love these. I don't like them as much as the previous ones, but I still find them perfect. The power and complexity of Voices, with LaBrie going nuts, the inclusion of SDV and that final half of The Mirror, and the synth soloing on 6:00 are all massive highlights of the album for me)
Scarred, Caught In A Web, The Silent Man
(9.5/10. So close to being perfect. What stops Scarred from being perfect? I can't quite put my finger on it. I love the intro, I love KM's solo, I love the structure and the riffs, but there's something not quite perfect about it, but it's still brilliant. Caught In A Web, it's LaBrie's voice on this. I love his voice on Awake generally, but on this song, I don't feel it quite as much. The Silent Man was one I took ages to get into, but I love it. I think it just feels less than perfect because it has the misfortune to follow Voices.
Lie, Erotomania
(9/10. Erotomania is the least memorable DT instrumental for me. I love the bass bit at the end, but my head skips out the middle quite often. Lie is a song I very much love, as it has a brilliant riff. In fact, it's my favourite riff on the album, and I love how it returns to it, but thinking about it, the song isn't overly interesting for interest's sake. It's a very good song, and that's all there is to it. It doesn't have any particular moments of "hey guys, I bet you didn't see this coming" other than the reprise of The Mirror.)
