I agree that it will either be Bridges in the Sky or On the Backs of Angels.  Despite what JLB said, I think they will opt for On the Backs of Angels; it has more of an opener feel.

I'm not sure if people will agree with me on this one, but I think, besides the throat singing, Bridges Sky and A Nightmare to Remember have very similar intros because they start slow and then it Kicks in with an awesome heavy riff pretty quick after it with a double kick feel drum beat. So I think if Dream Theater can open with A Nightmare to Remember they can easily open with Bridges In The Sky.

I was actually listening to BITS the other day thinking "Will this work as a great opener?"  I think it would  :tup

It has to be Shaman's Trance.

The intro is way too long to be in the meat of the setlist so while the intro tape is playing they'll either be getting pumped up for the start of the show or taking a break before the encore.

Valid point..... although, they've done it with Trial of Tears to name one.  I still think BITS will be the opener though ;)

Bridges in the Sky. I think OtBoA was placed perfectly in the last setlist and they feel the same. Maybe. I don't know. I'll find out Sunday, I'm not going to look at the setlist from SF.

I'll be there with ya Bro!  I have to look at the setlist though, trying to get the GF up to speed on what she'll hear :)

Sweet man! All you have to do is sit here down for an entire day and just play every album in order. That should do the trick.

I don't agree. It's all in how they structure the setlist and the transitions. I say that from personal experience of building setlists and then going out and singing them...DT can do it well too.

Ha, that would be a nice surprise :) Something similar happened during Chaos In Motion tour when Overture 1928 was an opener.

BWAAAAAAAAAA!

Seriously, that intro is like a ready made intro tape and then DAT riff is a perfect way to start a concert. OtBoA is the safe option but Shaman's Trance could be epic.

Natural album openers would be LNF or BITS, maybe OTBOA.

BUT I will say it would be awesome if they opened with a classic like Pull Me Under or Metropolis.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. Gotta go with the crowd here, OTBOA or BITS would be great, but how surprising would it be if they did ANTR? If they decide to record one of these shows for release, ANTR would be a good choice since it was never officially released live, that is, if the band still cares about that sort of thing like MP used to (varying the set list enough so that future live releases would feature different songs that haven't been released on previous live releases).

OTBoA opener and BITS Encore with TCoT or Outcry as the pre-encore closer.

Thats what I think would be the shizzle.
Cool Story Bro.

Upon listening to the album the first time, I immediately thought that Bridges in the Sky would be a great opener.  If they open w/ BITS, I'm really going to be mad that they're not coming through MN!  What a great start to the show.

I've got to go with BITS.  Look at the songs that have opened the last album tours

ANTR - see YTSECullen's comment above
Constant Motion
Root of All Evil
As I Am

I just don't get the same feel from OTBOA.  For an opening song, I'd think any band would want to keep the energy up from the excitement of the show starting.  The intro tape begins to roll, and they want to 'ignite sonic rage' (sorry, thought that was funny).  Anyway, I don't see the 90 second accoustic and percussion buildup on OTBOA doing that.  I see an intro tape, leading into the Shaman, following with the choir and harp, and (cue Emeril) BAM!  the riff at 1:36.  Just like the thunder/lightening from ANTR.

That ... that ... that's how I see it.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

UAGM?

This just made me realize something. LNF wouldn't be a bad opener at all.

Still, BITS works TOO damn well as an opener for it NOT to be the opener.

For me I think Bridges in the Sky is the perfect opener.  Have the audio of the beginning playing and then when it kicks in the curtain falls and DT takes over.  That is actually how I have envisioned it since ADToE came out.

They've (almost) always opened with a new song, except on Awake tour Pull Me Under was the opening song, and I expect them to start with some song off ADTOE, probably Bridges. I don't know, OTBOA doesn't feel like a great gig opener to me, BITS or Lost Not Forgotten would be more powerful.

Long-time lurker here. I just couldn't help but take the plunge due to my sheer love for this new album as well as my first DT concert experience (The Tabernacle, Atlanta, GA)

I will have to agree with most everyone that has already expressed their opinions: BITS or LNF

BITS has the perfect intro style and length to pull it off no problem. I can imagine the crowd getting seriously pumped, especially when the choir sample is played before a stellar opening riff!!!  :metal

LNF has that similar feel to me as when DT used AIA for Live At Budokan: an intoxicating melody that pulls you in only to then proceed to melt faces.

Thank you DTF for my "Welcome to the family"
