Pull Me Under. First song I ever heard from DT and I think it has aged quite well.

Impossible to answer. I could just go with the best song and take TGP, but we are talking about how well the song set the mood for the album (assuming it's the full album we are about to listen to, not a random song) and therefore Regression comes to mind. It gives out small pleasant snippets of the themes and creates the perfect atmosphere for what the album has to offer. It is of course not the best song but it makes me very excited whenever I hear it :)

At the same time I love TGP and think ITPOE Part 1 has a great joy and energy to it that makes it a great opener. So it's a dead end where I just can't choose which opener I like the most. But I will take Regression just to give it some votes.

It's a toss up between PMU and TGP.   :-\

Gotta be 6:00. Glass Prison is phenomenal but it doesnt have as much of a kick, and I think the strong intro really helps Awake, as its a difficult album to get into

A Fortune in Lies, PMU, Regression/Overture 1928, The Glass Prison, ITPOE pt. 1 and ANTR are all excellent openers.

Voted Pull Me Under. I feel like it indicates what the sound of the rest of the album will be like, while at the same time it gets you moving and grooving. 6:00, New Millenium (gasp!), and OTBOA also do this very well.

I notice The Glass Prison has a huge lead in the poll. While I totally agree it is an awesome song, and is one of their top notch album openers, I just don't feel it sets up the REST of the album quite as well as the others I mentioned. It's almost as though the song is such an experience in an of itself, anything afterwards is something seperate.

Probably something like this, but it's quite tricky:

1. The Glass Prison
2. ITPOE Pt. 1
3. On The Backs Of Angels
4. A Nightmare to Remember
5. The Root of All Evil
6. As I Am
7. Pull Me Under
8. A Fortune in Lies
9. 6.00
10. New Millennium
11. Regression

Not even decided really if I prefer TGP or ITPOE Pt.1 more ;D

While I prefer Glass Prison as a song, As I Am opens its album so perfectly that I had to vote for it. IMO, it's the foremost candidate for 'heaviest DT song' - it's just so charged with aggression and adrenaline and it simply screams, 'SHIT IS GOING DOWN'.

For me the easy answer was The Glass Prison which is my favorite song over all, but I went with 6:00 because I feel it is a better opener and such a unique in your face first few bars.

In the Presence of Enemies Part 1

I don't really like Systematic Chaos, but that is one of DT's best songs IMO.

As individual songs, The Glass Prison gets my vote.

Trying to look at it as songs that do the best jobs opening their albums... could be As I Am.  Train of Thought has a dinstinct heavy feel throughout, and AIA sets that up nicely.
Sincerely,
Jaffa

In my opinion, ITPOE pt. 1 is one of the most underrated DT songs in their catalog, i think its a brilliant opener with lots of energy

6:00 immediately came to mind.

I agree, saw them open with it in 2002. Under rated tune with cool foreshadowing Kevin Moore Lyrics.

Regression / Overture 1928 / Strange Deja Vu

The option is not there (shame!), so I voted Regression.

I do love how it works out with Glass Prison in the middle with the most votes... looking so much like a middle finger flipping off everybody who dares vote another song.
