Judging by the last few posts, this may go downhill pretty quickly... :lol

Perpetual Change

Okay, first I'll do my own calculations.

According to the ADTOE booklet:

Music by:
On the Backs of Angels: Petrucci (33%), Rudess (33%), Myung (33%)
BMU, BMD: Petrucci (25%), Rudess(25%), Myung(25%), Labrie (25%)
LNF: Petrucci(25%), Rudess(25%), Myung(25%), Labrie(25%)
This is the Life: Petrucci(50%), Rudess(50%)
Bridges in the Sky: Petrucci(33%), Rudess(33%), Myung(33%)
Outcry: Petrucci (33%), Rudess (33%), Myung(33%)
Far From Heaven: Petrucci(33%), Rudess(33%), Labrie(33%)
Breaking All Illusions: Petrucci(33%), Rudess(33%), Myung(33%)
Beneath the Surface: Petrucci (100%)

So, average each member's performance we get this:

album average
Petrucci = 40 percent
Rudess= 30 percent
Myung= 20 percent
LaBrie= 10 percent
Mangini= 0 percent

I'd say the above chart of averages represents pretty what I've always thought about the band pretty well. I suspect most of you guys think Mangini contributed in some way-- I'm sure he did things here and there, but ultimately not enough to actually be given any credit as a writer. So, we still haven't seen Mangini write with the band yet and that's where I disagree with your poll. I mean, I'm sure he made adjustments to John's outline here and there, but he himself has been very clear about what a miniscule role he's played in the writing process thus far.

Since I can't vote him down, though, I just voted Myung up. He seems a bit under-represented in yours!

Phew. I haven't done that much math since like highschool  :hat

although I think it's JP, my huge love for JLB didn't let me vote for him....

I don't think you got it, sorry.

Overall I think people got it though. The distribution looks like something I would expect from a poll like this. Especially the fact that JP and JR are so close by means people didn't just vote for the most important member (JP would have a lot more then).

Thanks Rumborak.... sorry I missed your warning and did not read the OP....
it's too late to see the then current biggest neg difference now... however current difference is the highest in JLB's ranking.... his current percentage is much lower than I think it should be...

so wrong explanation in my first post but right vote .....

well...if I understand correctly....I think all of them are amazing...and why should Mangina suffer.

So as his number was the lowest...I voted for him.
It helped that I'd just watched that drum solo on youtube that somebody posted. He's not some rookie drummer....show the love people.

Bertielee

Voted JLB because he was only at 17.9 % and I find him to be really distinctive and a great part of DT "sound".

Btw, Rumby, very COOL idea! :metal

Should I HAVE to smoke a bag of weed to comprehend this?

Because as of right now he isn't important to the core DT sound? It's not that he isn't amazing, he just hasn't contributed enough yet.

No Petrucci, no dream theater. You can take away any other member. Portnoy has gone. Myung isn't too much of an influence. JR is a (relatively) recent addition. Petrucci has a writing credit on every song on the new one, wrote >80% of the lyrics and never fails to deliver. He's the man and without him this band is nothing.
