I wanted to give up on this band, but I'm actually interested again now. Sounds like Jon's got his sense of purpose back. Hopefully he'll actually stick to his guns this time around.

Interesting. I haven't really ever listened to Into Eternity, but a song I did hear by them a long time ago I didn't care for because of the vocals :lol Um, so did that band break up or something, and should I give them a chance? I guess I'm gonna have seeing as their singer is now fronting Iced fucking Earth. ... Very interesting.

He has a very very different voice than Matt, but can screech higher than probably tim. But I don't know what song you've heard, since Into Eternity has had at least 2 different singers, but here's an example of his range, (like I said, very different than matt).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nQ4ZR-NI6A

After listening to that... I'm not getting my hopes up.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Watched the video on my girlfriend's blackberry. I don't know if it's because this guy is now the vocalist of one my all time favorite bands and my brain is forcing a liking, but the growls and screams didn't bother me and those wails were awesome. Incoming serious KrotchRaut Influence? I think I'm gonna check this band out.

Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I knew it was Stu the second Barlow released that statement. After seeing them tour in '08, its an obvious fit.

It makes a lot of sense, I just hope they utilize Stu to his full extent.

I don't know. Tim couldn't, but I hope this guy can.

They'll spend the next 5 years re-recording all existing material.

Songs like "watching over me" aren't going to sound right with anyone other than Barlow I'd say, possibly more songs.

I agree. But with Stu, I'm sure they'll focus on the heavier songs, since that's what he does best. I also wouldn't be surprised if their new songs had screaming/growling on occasion.

I believe that's the right date. Can't say I'm too excited about this. Having 3 nearly identical concerts seems rather pointless, but I'll probably still get it. I hope the documentary is good.

Everyone,

Jon just sent this to me and asked me to share it with all of you...

Hello gang!

Just a quick update for you from the road. We had a great weekend playing at Sweden Rock Friday and the Rock Hard festival in Germany on Saturday. The band’s having a lot of fun, and today we begin rehearsing the new songs for the forthcoming CD, titled “Dystopia.” We begin master tracking in Florida in 2 weeks and will be traveling between Europe and the US this summer to play festivals and finish the new album. I can honestly say that I haven’t had this many songs give me goose bumps since we recorded Something Wicked This Way Comes, way back in 1998, so this is also very exciting.

As you can imagine, it’s a very busy time for us. I think we’re all having emotional ups and downs as we’re coming to the end of an era with Matt’s retirement, and we’re also very excited about the future with Stu coming onboard, so it’s a little bit of a roller coaster ride for us. However, we are having a killer time, and Matt is performing at his absolute best and going out with pure class and style, which is always the way he rolls.

We also had a great time hanging out with the guys in Down last night at the Rock Hard festival. Freddie and my manager joined them onstage for a nice jam at the end of the show. It was brilliant and a lot of fun.

We’ll be keeping you posted on updates as things move along through the summer.

Best to you all!!

Jon

:coolio

EDIT: Just looked up what Dystopia means, and OH NO I HOPE THIS DOESN'T SOUND LIKE SONS OF LIBERTY!!!!!!

Eh, that's a fairly uninspired title choice, but I'll certainly hold all reservation till I hear it. There is the high school kid part inside of me excited for the prospect of a new Iced Earth record.

That would be beautiful.

I'm very excited to hear how Stu sounds in Iced Earth, since he's great in Into Eternity. An amazing vocalist, he matched Labrie's skill when I saw them in 07.

Hey guys!  I just came up on this thread.  I'm fairly new to this forum and love how there is an Iced Earth thread in the general music discussion!  :metal  I've always loved this band and I am excited for the new singer.  I also see Dark Saga not getting a lot of love here, what's the deal??  It's probably my favorite record from them.  Maybe I'm just weird!!   :rollin

Welcome! Good to see another Iced Earth fan. Unfortunately this band isn't too popular around these parts. I think 95% of DTF hates power metal and the like. Fantasy can only be on TV, not in music... Anyway, The Dark Saga is pretty good, but it doesn't get too many spins from me. I remember when I bought a huge IE haul back in 04, I put TDS on and hated it. But A Question of Heaven is my favorite IE song (the live version) and basically the live versions of all TDS songs are so much better than studio. Can't wait for the new album!

The Dark Saga is one of my favourite albums from them (along with Something Wicked This Way Comes). It has I Died For You, Violate, Vengeance Is Mine, A Question Of Heaven, and my favourite IE song - The Hunter.

:metal

The Dark Saga was actually what drew me to Iced Earth. I was big into Spawn when I was younger. So then I saw Iced Earth did an album about Spawn. Had to have it. No question.

I also don't think I'd seen this thread until just earlier today. Glad I noticed it. Love Iced Earth. One of the better bands from my early days of metal.

Dark Saga rules. It's probably the most concise release in the discography. I find myself listening to it more then any other record, really.

Eh, Suffering Scarred sounds too much like Black Sabbath and is boring. The latter two songs though are great.

But Dream Theater is about as close to power metal as it gets, without actually being power metal...  ???
