Yeah it was an awesome set. Too bad they didn't have time for the second encore which would've been "Watching Over Me", which I really wanted to hear. Song-wise it was awesome though, "Colors" and "Pure Evil" being two I really, really wanted to hear, and lots of stuff from Something Wicked This Way Comes, which is my favorite album of their's. :metal

Oh yeah, and why didn't they have that awesome epic sun-esque light that they had when they toured earlier in the year?

You can see it in this video, behind Smedley. It's really cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nli8cwJ1Ndg

I thought a perfect encore after all the classic songs would have been 10,000 days and I walk Alone. And He nailed Declaration Day...His voice is much better now then when he first came back and was playing ripper songs.
Sig removed for being too tall.

Is Jon a Tool fan? :neverusethis: I wish they'd keep A Question of Heaven and Travel in Stygian in the set.

Sucks I couldn't go, oh well, I've seen them with Barlow and Ripper, I'm happy. I'll wait for a DVD and have sex with an arab while watching it.

You forgot My Own Savior. I have the set list. Only song not played was Watching Over Me.

As for the band? Come on dude. I have video footage. They were sloppy as hell. I was front row center the entire time. Troy was cheating with the picking patterns by alternate picking instead of copying Jon's stuff. His leads started out fine, but got progressively sloppier. He didn't even learn certain leads (Colors is a good example). Even Jon was off at times. ALL of Matt's screams were way higher then necessary. The band became unlocked several times. That's what happens when you play 4 shows a year. There is no room for growing on the road to lock into one another and become the beast it needs to be. I saw them 2 years ago, same lineup, in the midst of a full on tour. They sounded ten times better. They were even choreographed. This, as fun and exciting as it was, was sloppy.
Part of the issue is re-using the same musicians probably led to people being tired. Sons of Liberty sounded better then IE from a technical stand point. Which is too bad, as I snored through most of Jon's rants. If they were just playing with less banter and the message was optional, I'd have been more into it. That being said, I dislike the entire project a lot less now. The live renditions were superior to the album tracks.

Jon was in high spirits. He was a god-damn nut! Must've took his crazy pills, as he was all hopped up. Even a the end, he was all smiles and laughs. Cracked a joke about making sure Freddie plays on the new record, to which he responded that he won't, but he'll put his picture in the booklet anyway :P
Turns out Freddy lives an hour from me. Gonna have to hook up with him and hang out at shows. Setting up a stable of local musicians to make guest appearances on my bands debut. Think he'd be a good choice.
Matt seemed tired and not in all that great of a mood at the meet and greet. Interesting, as he was the only member who didn't have to do 2 sets. Strangely, Jon looked surprised when my friend mentioned the National Anthem Nascar youtube clip of Matt singing. I just blurted out "you didn't know!?" and it got  laugh. I would've thought that as bandmates and brothers in law (and patriotic nuts that that information would've been shared :lol
They didn't skimp out on the freebies though. Free shirt and flag. Didn't cost me a nickle, as the tix were won my friend through his fanclub membership.

When I was at the beginning of the hallway with the table in it right outside the meet & greet room, I heard the whole room burst into laughter, so maybe that was you? And when I shook Smedley's hand, it felt like I was holding molding clay. :lol

I was wearing the VIP shirt yesterday, and everyone that read it (except for two people) read it as "Red Earth" or "Ked Earth"... :lolpalm:

Dude, most likely. I was surprised it got such a response :lol

And same deal. Me and my buds stopped in CT on the way back home for lunch. We ended up at this little diner and got wrecked! We drank so much, they started pulling out specialty bottles of expensive stuff on the house! Great times...but yeah, we were all wearing our VIP shirts and not one person read them correctly. I think my favorite was Blood Earth...I didn't even know how they pulled that one off :lol

Must have been the blood red color under the logo that threw them off :P

If you sign up for the Iced Earth newsletter and make an account on IcedEarth.com you get "10,000 Strong" and "Burning Times" for free from the upcoming Festivals Of The Wicked. Listening to "10,000 Strong" right now; very good.

Giggidy. Anyway, no typo, just a joke since Jon's taking forever and a day to release this DVD. And as far as I know, there will be one Ripper concert on the DVD.

I talked to Ripper. He is getting no compensation for all of this, so I can't say I'm too thrilled to support it.
That being said, the live clips are good. I will likely get a pirated copy or something haha

There isn't any outside of me being a fan. A rather rabid one, but a fan none the less. He's very cool with keeping in touch with his fan-base.

Well, I'm awfully close with him for someone who lives 10 hours away haha. I will be seeing him for the third time this year later this month. He always puts me on his guest list and we hang out. I'm going from New Hampshire to Ohio to catch his unplugged show at his rock restaurant. He's putting me up in a hotel for free and we're gonna party. Maybe he'll even let me sing a duet with him. I don't know, maybe I downplay it. Maybe I am his friend lol
I am certainly a Ripper clone baby though

How hard would I have to cradle your balls to get you to ask ripper to sing on my CD? Or to at least give me the oppurtunity to talk to him about it.

I'm already hitting him up with offers myself :lol

Seriously, I'm trying to convince him to duet a song on my band's debut, as well as a series of other guest musicians.
It's a matter of money and management (meaning if they think it's a good career move or not). It's not difficult to reach him, either on facebook or myspace.

Try facebook then. It's much easier there. I'm kind of in disbelief at this now. He's getting me a hotel room and then taking me out for lunch the next day. I guess we are friends ;D
