Snippet from IcedEarth.com on Iced Earth and Sons Of Liberty partnering with Century Media:
QuoteSchaffer further states: "I am excited about the opportunity to work on SONS OF LIBERTY and ICED EARTH with Century Media. This was the label where my career began and there are many memories, some of them great, some of them not. However, we all grew up and are able to see eye to eye on the mission ahead: making sure my creativity gets the best possible outlet. I am much looking forward to this team delivering the goods and releasing some killer music."

I thought you guys would get a kick out of that.

I gotta agree, his ego has become insane.

Here's a band for ya, Mike Portnoy on drums, Jon on Guitar, Gildenlow on Vocals and bass. It will be called "nothing ever gets done".

Axl Rose and Gildenlow alternating on vocals.

Dear god....

MykeHavoc

Fail in regards to going back to Century Media. That's just pathetic. Knocks the integrity down another ten notches :-\

So love is a collector?

What's love got to do with it?

Got to do with it?

lateralus88

Well, you said you weren't blind.

Well, you said you weren't blind.

Why are you referring to me as love? What's this jibba jabba?

lateralus88

Well, you do love Iced Earth, do you not?

Hmmm, They were my first favorite Metal band, and they have special place in my heart, but I don't LOVE them. Especially lately. With only four albums, I think Redemption is a way better band than Iced Earth. You know what? I LOVE Redemption. :metal

Iced Earth is great and all, but Jon Schaffer is terribly "meh" to me. I mean, the music is great, lyrics are solid and all that, but I really don't care for him.

glaurung

He can be kind of a douche. But he can also be a very good songwriter. :metal

K guys I got a great idea for a song, not that you have a say in it. See, I'm gonna chug the lowest string open here.

Yea? Then what?

Oh, I was done.

MykeHavoc

His picking patterns are one of the most significant elements to the IE sound. He could just chug the open E all day, but he'd come up with a million cool ways to do it. Very influential to my rhythm playing skills.

Zook

Are we talking about that really boring chug in choruses like Melancholy? Duh deh duh duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

MykeHavoc

Ummm.....no....

I'm talking about his rapid gallops on....well everything else.

Zook

Oh I like those, but he's reused so many of the same galloping riffs that it's comical.

MykeHavoc

In actuality there have always been differences, no matter how similar a riff is. I know, it can feel repetitive after a bit, but for the most part, he's really created a sound that's all his own. People can say what they want, but when you know when you're listening to Schaffer's playing. There are few players with as instantly of a distinct tone and style as him.

You're right about him creating a sound of his own, but he has ripped himself off, whether it be in Iced Earth, Demons & Wizards, or even Sons Of Liberty. He just has a signature riff..... Just like that generic metal riff that every metal band that even was has ripped off (2 Minutes To Midnight) Even Pyramaze has used the Schaffer riff in Year Of The Phoenix. I find that hilarious because Barlow sings on that album.

Oh, and Night Of The Stormrider Round 3 is up.

I never payed that much attention to the riffs used in multiple songs, but come to think of it, there are two or three Sons Of Liberty songs that (I felt) used the exact same riff.
