What's this? Ticket sales creates an income for the band? They have to pay taxes on their income? They have to pay the federal government to play a show about how bad the federal government is?

Fuck, Sons of Liberty is so awful.

I've given up hope that we'll every see another great IE release.

I'm sure we will someday. It may just be a long time before it happens. Whether or not Iced Earth will be touring again is what I'm wondering.

Matt Barlow is my preferred vocalist, although I think "Ripper" Owens did a pretty decent job too.

My favorite Iced Earth album is "Burnt Offerings".

And I have listened to Jon's "Son's of Liberty" project. As much as I agree with the message that the federal government has been grossly violating The Constitution for many decades and needs to be completely reformatted, the lyrics to songs such as "We the People" are particularly weak. I would have preferred for there to be more allegory than cheesy 80s-style lyrics.

I have yet to make it through a full Sons of Liberty song.  Those songs do nothing for me on an emotional, intellectual, or even simply "headbanging" level.

I'd be indifferent to them if they weren't propagating ignorance.

Well, I can't imagine Jon Schaffer writing a heavy metal album which encourages people to inform themselves and take moderate positions on actual issues the nation is facing, because that would be about as fun as an unbiased musical appraisal of the Stem Cell Research debate.

Sons of Liberty sounds like Schaffer trying to write a prequel to the Something Wicked stuff without referencing the aliens.

I wouldn't mind that much if it was just political beliefs.  At the end of the day, I can live with a song about ending the Federal Reserve (if it's good, mind you), because at the end of the day, it's a just as valid political belief.  But I can't live with him writing a song about how the Federal Reserve engineers economic collapses to destroy the middle class.

With lyrics like "educate yourself". Not sure how that makes sense.

I think there's a little more context to an entire albums lyrics than just two words. Come on.

A bit of news:

Jon had been talked with me today, so here are the main points:

- DVD will be out later in the year.
- SOL will be out in July, then DVD, then new IE in spring 2011.

I'm actually glad he's doing SOL, not that I have to listen to it. Now all his horrible anti-gov songs won't be iced earth.

Keep it up john. Take all your lame generic ideas, throw them into SOL. Make sure all your good writing goes to iced earth though.

ICED EARTH SURVIVOR ROUND 3 IS ONLINE.

Also, STOP MAKING ALL CHORUSES HAVE 10000 LAYERS OF VOCALS!

He's clearly jealous of Hansi. Ever since Demons & Wizards, Jon has been trying to emulate Blind Guardian's choir sound in some way.

Well rippers voice wasn't as huge as borlow, and it worked well for him. However, Barlows voice does not need that many layers, it's really strong. Sure, sometimes it sounds really cool, but it sounds much less cool if you ALWAYS do it.

Yeah The Crucible of Man was way too layered when it shouldn't have been. The layers did sound awesome with Ripper though, especially on The Domino Decree. On songs like Sacrificial Kingdoms, the double layers sounded off. I miss old Iced Earth. Jon said he's giving the other members A LOT more creative input on this new album, so we might have a pretty kickin' album.

Yeah I read it somewhere, but now I can't remember or find what it was from. I watched and read a lot of interviews with him last year. Plus, he let Matt write half of TCoM, which is Jon's big story so I think he's starting to see the light.

Well lyrically, yea. But I assume this time the bassist and other guitarist will have an actual say? I don't think that's been done since  Dark Saga. Unless you count 1 riff in Im-ho-tep.

James MacDonough wrote the fast section in Reaping Stone. Maybe Jon was jealous of Randy Shawver too...

James wrote that? I had no idea. Awesome.

Also, they need to get Randy back on lead guitar (or at least someone who can write tastefully and can contribute more than just a solo per song) and James back on bass. Brent can stay, he's cool.

The bassist. He's more enthusiastic about Iced Earth than Jon.
