Yeah, just watched the whole thing and this is a great band. As a fan of Blind Guardian and Ayreon and someone who really loves Iced Earth, this band is a gem of a mixup to see. I assume this will be the lineup they take into the studio as well.

And there is good news, in the press conference of Hellfest Jon said the following:
-Two studio albums in the planning (one soon and one in a couple of years)
-A live album in the planning (2020 or later)
-They will probably do more live stuff, but it will likely be special events

So it seems they are really taking this thing seriously after so many years, not just a one off thing.

I started watching the video and it's really awesome, I plan on watching the whole thing eventually.

Anyone know the reason to bring this thing back from the dead and put so much into it now?  Obviously not against it, but without knowing the history here, just seems odd to suddenly put so much stock into it.

They've wanted to do a third album for a long time, but trying to find the time for it was difficult, last I heard (and that was like 7 years ago).
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

To build on that, every time they think they have an opportunity, Jon or Hansi get too busy with their main bands.  So they honestly just blocked out a year - Blind Guardian had the time.  Jon put IE on hiatus after cutting the Incorruptile world tour off shorter than usual and they dedicated 2019 to Demons & Wizards.

The new studio album, a live album (and potential DVD) and a fourth studio record would be fantastic.  Hopefully they can keep the commitment.

I read an interview where Hansi said that for the third album he was inspired by John Milton, Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy and Stormlight Archive books by Sanderson, among other things.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

I caught the first 30 minutes of that before leaving the office.  They were ON FIRE.  Jon was so pumped, the stage set looked awesome and Hansi was sounding killer.  4 backup singers too.

Jon was interviewed on a local metal radio station the other day and he said the same band, minus the keyboard player and backup singers, will be on the US tour.  They planned to see if the Wacken footage is viable before committing to a live DVD but they have recorded every show's audio, so a live album is definitely happening at least.  Plus 2 studio albums.  I don't see why the footage wouldn't be good, given the amount of bands that release their shows from Wacken.

I watched most of it and listened to just about all of it while I finished my work day.  It was awesome, looked and sounded great so I don't see why they couldn't use the footage.  Jon definitely looked really happy.

TWO studio albums in the future?!

They signed a deal for 2 studio albums and one live one (3 albums in total).  There is a lot of demand for Demons and Jon and Hansi seem committed to delivering a second disc in a few more years, after this new one comes out in 2020.

He also talked about who may appear on the album, and Demons will always be comprised from the IE/BG family of musicians, including his session guys.

Also catched most of the Wacken show and it was awesome. Cool to see they had a group of backing singers (nice to see Marcela and John). Great performance, great setlist and a good timeslot for a dvd (late, so darker/more atmosphere). They better release this, but I think they will, at the very least as a bonus to something.

I think it was for Wicked Witches that the sun was setting just perfect, looked stunning.

Since I finally got the two albums, I listened to the self titled on my way to Hartford yesterday and then Touched by the Crimson King today on my way home.  Both were good, but the self titled was much better.  I had listened to both a bunch but mostly as background music so my first time actually really listening to the music.  It totally feels like Blind Guardian though just with a crunchier guitar and a little less harmony.  I definitely like it a lot since Hansi is so damn good.

I watched a bit last night, so goood.  I also watched it live so I'm just going back to it because it's better than listening to the albums IMO.  Sounds good and looks amazing, the backing vocals add so much to it as well.  I'm not in love with the production (on the remasters or the original) of the two albums so I find this really enjoyable although it's probably the same show I'll see in Progpower so I probably shouldn't get too into it to spoil the enjoyment of finally seeing it in a few weeks.

If I won the lottery, I'd give a million to Barlow so he can tour with Iced Earth again. I'm sure Jon wouldn't mind booting Stu for Matt.

Dear Stu,

I want to wish you a killer happy birthday. You are my brother and I'd do anything for you. You are the killerest.

By the way, you're fired. Matt's back in the band. Brothers 'til the end!

Fuck posers!

Sincerely, Jon.

Saw a youtube video of a vocal coach reacting to Burning Times live.

Originally I was pumped to see someone witness the greatness of Barlow, but it turned out to be a Stu performance.

I think the first thing she said about his vocals were how weird they sounded with the, what we call, Barlow imitation voice.

I'd have to win about 100 billion to even consider spending a million on something like that.

I'd consider it donating to charity. Chances are Matt probably wouldn't accept the cash though. He's too humble.
