Anyone know anything about this Raphael guy?

Does it matter? He'll be gone in a few months.

Annnnnnnnnnnnd Brent Smedley is out. One of the ninja turtles is taking his place.

What happened this time?

Brent says there's some really big problems happening in his family right now and he felt he couldn't dedicate himself to the schedule Iced Earth was aiming for.

Fair enough.

Now they just need to get rid of Troy

Exactly, I didn't have a problem with Brent, Troy and Stu are the ones that need to go.

But if Stu goes Schaffer will only get another singer and make him sing like Matt. Stu isn't the problem; Schaffer's attitude is.

If he were looking for a singer that he wanted to sing naturally, we wouldn't be in this problem to begin with. If Stu is fired or quits, Schaffer is just going to go look for another singer that either sounds like Matt or he can get to imitate him.

Brent hung on longer than I thought he would, actually.

And I agree; doesn't matter who the singer is, unless they have a spine and find a way to both stand up to Schaffer and stay in the band, they're going to sound like Barlow. What the band needs is Stu using all of his range, because he's easily the most gifted singer Iced Earth has ever had (yes, I think what he can REALLY do is better than Ripper) but he's being forced into this silly sound of his. People going on about how awful Stu is need to clarify that he's awful at being Matt Barlow, because having seen him with Into Eternity, I know he's an amazing singer.

Schaffer hates growls so Stu using all of his range with Iced Earth just isn't going to happen. Although it's weird, he was so impressed with Stu when Into Eternity opened for them, but Stu is barely doing anything in Iced Earth that orignaly impressed Jon. Anguish of Youth and End of Innocence are the closest to his natural range, and even there he's awkwardly deepening his voice a bit. Compare those to Surrounded by Night. Maybe Jon thinks Stu doesn't sound tough enough. But then why hire him at all? "Hmm, he has unbelievable range, but he sounds a little weak. The fans want Matt so I'll tell Stucifer to sound like him. Then we'll be the KILLERESTESTESTESTEST!!!!!!!!!!!"

Just listened to the Into Eternity track Surrounded By Night and loved it. Great vocals. Listened to the rest of the album and despite the growls enjoyed that too. Used sparingly as a contrast I can cope with it- I wouldn't want to hear much of it in Iced Earth though.

Surrounded By Night, The Incurable Tragedy II, Pain Through Breathing, Out... sheesh his vocals are just insane.

I listened to Scattering of Ashes and yeah, Stu's a completely different singer in Into Eternity. While admittedly most of his performance is on the higher end there, so we don't really know from that what the lower end of his range would be-I'm willing to bet it's not "sound like a forced Matt Barlow." Also forgot how fucking good that album was, too.  :metal

Giving Dystopia another listen. Only on Anthem, but I think if Stu sang like he does on the title track all the time even on older songs, I wouldn't mind too much. Unfortunately he sings like he does on Anthem all the time, and that will not do for me.

Stu, please chew your food and swallow before singing. Thanks.

Nope, it was a 4 or 5 minute fan-shot video. Can't find any other links unfortunately.

That sucks. Matt was asking if there was any video, so it wasn't him who complained or did whatever to get the video taken down.

I'm digging it, and I also liked the other video when I heard it a few days ago before it was taken down. I'll be able to give a more solid opinion once the actual album is released.

I have to give the band credit for playing an entire setlist's worth of new material that hadn't been released yet, and not playing any songs from Nevermore or Iced Earth's catalogue. Pretty bold move on their part. :metal

"There's a lot happening in ICED EARTH world at the moment. We are just a few short weeks away from getting together in Germany to rehearse the new songs for the upcoming album, 'Plagues Of Babylon'. We have a few weeks of rehearsal, then we start tracking the new album in between a string of festivals in Europe, and one in India, which we are all excited about, since it'll be our first time there.

"Tracking will be done at a studio in Germany to try to keep the jetlag at a minimum. The numerous trips across the Atlantic during the 'Dystopia' recording were a bit brutal, so we are doing it smarter this time. If we stay on target, you will have the new album in October! It's a tight schedule, but we are intent on making it happen. I am very happy with the work so far, and it's only going to get better when we are all together cranking it out."
