Clearly YOU don't know Jon Schaffer enough. He would block the sword with his guitar and play triplets until Deadpool ran away from boredom.

Deadpool would only run away as a ruse. As Schaffer is gloating about his victory he would turn around and face his certain death at the hands of Wade Wilson.

Demons & Wizards' Terror Train is still a terrible song.

Anyway, NOTS Round 4 is up.

I never got how two guys who are cornerstones of power metal could write a song like “terror train” and release it to the world as a single when there’s an album full of much better songs that could be released instead.

Yeah, what was wrong with the title track? That song is all kinds of bad ass, and could have worked well as a single. Beneath the Waves would've been great as well along with Down Where I Am. Instead we got one of the worst sets of lyrics ever written to tell everyone not to buy the album.

You, the guy that constantly shits on TV shows for bad dialog and writing likes a song with horrible lyrics and generic Schaffer song writing?

Do you guys foresee Stu sticking around in the band? It would be tough for Jon to do another switch I think.

I don't think it's tough for Jon to switch at all. He's done it his whole career. It might be tough finding someone... Oh wait, who am I kidding, he has Stu Block, Iced Earth's worst vocalist since Gene Adam.

Disclaimer: I think Stu Block is an amazing vocalist, but the way he's singing in Iced Earth sounds downright silly.

I thought Dystopia was good when it came out, much better than Crucible, but it just didn't last with me, I'm not really a fan of Stu in IE either.  Into Eternity is a different story, he sounds awesome but he is just not cutting it for me in IE.

IMO, Jon shot himself in the foot when he fired Tim.

I agree. Framing Armageddon was great and I was really looking forward to Part 2 with him, and although I wasn't entirely disappointed in Matt's return, it does suck that we'll never have the continuity for Parts 1 & 2.

Yeah, it was shaping up to be a great concept, and well, part 2 was okay but I think the whole situation left a bitter taste in my mouth that made me not enjoy part 2 like I should have.  I should go back and give it another try.

The inconsistency between the two records is annoying as hell too.  I mean, Tim singing part 1 and re-recording Matt's songs, then Matt recording part 2 and re-recording Tim's songs, I mean, WTF is that, I'm sure that has never been done before in the history of any artist. (Could be wrong though)

I don't think I am going to enjoy this DVD anywhere near as much as Festivals.  Might even wait a while after release and get it at a good price.

I just feel Iced Earth are basically redundant now in the metal world.  I mean, in my eyes they are really.  They were such a force 10-15 years ago and had such a good barrage of material, now they just seem redundant to me.

Woah, when did all the Stu Block hate start? I think he is fantastic. the lows and mids of Barlow with the highs of Ripper. that's what Iced earth needs. and having seen iced earth back in June, they were all dead on the money with Stu.

This puzzles the hell out of me.

i don't agree with it either, but i see the basis for the "do something original!" argument. IE could do with some new elements; the last record isn't exactly progressing their sound forward. Stu could easily influence this positively if that were the creative situation in the band.

also popping in to say i got over the whole vocalist thing (idk why that would even be much of an issue with this band...) and officially worship Night of the Stormrider as i should. also applies to the self-titled album and other non-Barlow/non-Ripper recordings. it's pretty brilliant music no matter which voice is on it, and John Greely was basically the prototype for the style Barlow perfected later anyway.

(pretty sure it's because i got into the Paul Di'Anno Iron Maiden albums, too.)

He'd sound great if his Barlow wasn't completely forced. He's not a baratone, and when singing in the style of Barlow he sounds silly. His Ripper and his highs are great although they aren't as fierce as Barlow or Ripper.

Yeah, what Zook said, listen to Into Eternity and you will hear what a truly great singer he is.  I just don't understand this thing with forcing him to sound like Barlow, I mean Ripper worked out fine and he was just completely being himself.
