Never seen that, anyone know a youtube link for that?

Is it sad that I was able to tell not only the song they were playing but also the specific part of the song just by looking at the original gif with no knowledge of that show you just posted?

Lol. Same here. Probably because Jon made the same gesture at the part when I saw them earlier this year.

Having seen Stu live with Into Eternity as well as owning a couple of their albums with him on them, the notion that how he sings now is his middle range voice is flat out, pure bullshit. I was initially excited when Stu joined Iced Earth because of his versatility-I didn't expect the band to use his death metal growls, of course, but I figured everything else was open season. Then Dystopia came out and Stu was doing Barlow, but I figured, okay, first album with the band, they're just getting to know what each other can do, the next one will be better. Quotes like this from Schaffer, though, pretty much say that you're going to get Stu forcing himself to sound like Jon wants for the duration. What a fucking waste.

I completely agree, and unfortunately, I'm not all that thrilled about the DVD mainly because of Stu's voice...

After the disappointment of most of Festivals of the Wicked-I liked the Ripper set-I'm really hoping for a killer DVD from Iced Earth. But I just can't get excited about a singer as talented as Stu Block being forced to sound like something he isn't. Once again, Charlie Brown is running at the football, hoping Lucy doesn't fuck with him again and pull it away.

Serious question: why do any of you guys still bother with this band?

Also, Stu sounds really bad. Why is he being forced to sing in that phoney deep voice? Oh yeah 'cause Jon Schaffer lol.

I don't both with this band anymore.  I became much too apathetic to pay attention a long time ago.

I'm holding out hope for days of old, but really, Dystopia was the only real disappointment from this band for me. I like both Ripper albums and Crucible of Man is pretty cool, although I don't play it much. I still love the old stuff immensely.

Also, "phoney deep voice" is a perfect description. Jon has lost his mind, but he has made some great music in the past.

That is why I make the Charlie Brown and the football comparison. I keep wanting Iced Earth to be the band I fell in love with over a decade ago, and I keep kicking at that football, only for Schaffer to pull it away. My patience is about out, though.

I am even less excited for the DVD now.  His vocals here are very underwhelming.  Why must he sing like this, why is Jon telling him to do this.  Even Ripper sounded good on this cause he did his own thing.  He gave the songs new flavour but stayed true to the originals.  Stu just sounds like an average karaoke singer here.

I finally watched the video. Listening to Stu try to hit "high" notes in his Barlow voice is embarassing. That's OBVIOUSLY not his natural middle range, Schaffer, stop forcing it. Gets a little better when the song picks up, but the first part is fucking horrible. Not bothering with the DVD now.

Iced Earth > Dystopia

Gene Adam may sound absurdingly ridiculous, but as a whole the debut is miles better than Dystopia.

Well I,  :blush

I've given Gene Adam shit for years. He's been the butt of every IE joke (when not Schaffer), but after listening to the debut again recently, I must say he's really not that bad. I mean, he's terrible, but he doesn't detract from the music, or bring the album down. He fits. I never thought he was so bad that I couldn't listen to the album, but I appreciate him a lot more now, and Iced Earth is definitely among their best.

Yeah, it has some great songs, with When the Night Falls being my favourite. Though the AiA version is far superior to the studio version.

Iced Earth has a lot of live tracks that are better than the studio versions, but I have to disagree on that one. I prefer the studio cut.

I just listened to it last night for the first time since it was released and it was so horrible. The only part I liked was the orchestral part of the outro.

Actually, the "ABANDON ALL HOPE!" part is cool too since Stu growls it. But the rest is just pure awful.

Joking aside, He did say recently that his new years resolution is to make the heaviest/best whatever Iced Earth album to date. He might do that, but unfortunately Stu Block will ruin it.

Didn't he say that about Dystopia?

I mean despite Stu's awful performance on Dystopia, it was still boring as hell musically. It's not like a different singer would have it made it great. It would have gone from awful, to not good but listenable at best.

I really wish that IF he manages to write a good record, that he just lets Stu sing it in his own voice.
