Longest encore ever :lol

Nah, when I saw Metallica their encores were almost as long as the main set, with Kirk's solo spot coming in one of them. This is a close second though  :lol

I remember the first time I saw Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They left the stage for the encore as per usual, and the audience didn't realize they were coming back so they all got up to leave. One of the guitarists had to run back on to stage and tell them not to leave.

Because, originally, an encore only happened because the crowd response was so overwhelming, the band would continue past the normal end of the show. At some point in time, though, the encore stopped being a result of a special performance and became mandatory.

if it was a DVD filming, they probably thought they could do a better performance than the first. happens often (see the Devin Townsend - By a Thread set!).

That or some sort of technical screw up happened that wrecked the performance.

Must've been a bad blunder, like the filming fucked up, because any sound issue would just be fixed with over-dubs.

I'm glad there are bootlegs from the show this time around. Now we'll know how much post production madness really goes on.

There was a technical fuck-up during the first End Of Innocence if my sources are correct. Also, judging from what I've seen of the vids, the singing won't require post-production madness, although Stu is still doing too much of Barlow for my liking. And no, not a hardcore disappointed Barlow fan, I just really dig Stu and would like to hear more of his own mid-range

Yeah, putting out a new live disc this early into the new singers tenure before he has had adequate time to be broken in and get comfortable with finding his own unique interpretations of material seems like a poor idea. But then again, who knows how long Stu will last in the band. And Jon doesn't always seem like the type to think business decisions through thoroughly.

i thought stu was great live, whereas i dont like his vocals on dystopia as much. this was a great setlist, at least the songs i know from the show i saw anyway, so ill totally get this.  As far as the barlow-esqe vocal debate, i dont really mind, but if he were able to d a unique high range more so than his mid range, id be ok if he stopped imitating barlow. otherwise it works for me.

What about Troy? I guarantee there will be touch ups from him. He's been doing pretty good from the other recent bootlegs I've seen, but he fucked up a few times for the DVD shoot.

i understand the "why are you getting Stu to do his best Barlow ripoff?" concerns, but i honestly prefer the way he can be so extremely faithful to the old material, yet clearly displays a few of his own sensibilities (and probably will continue to — the new "Dante's Inferno" already has some cool additions). he's a much, much, much better fit to the sound of IE than Ripper was, despite his obvious talent... and he can sing the Ripper material well too!

When I sing along to Iced Earth, I match my voice to Barlow's, but Stu seems to over do it, especially on the ballads.

If you make a "Face" while singing, then you're doing a put-on. Barlow doesn't sound awkward when doing his thing because that is simply how he sounds. Same with Ripper. And I for one far prefer Ripper, since he sang all the songs HIS way. Brian Johnson doesn't try to sound like Bon Scott. Dio didn't try to sound like Ozzy. John Bush didn't try to sound like Joey Belladonna. Bruce Dickinson didn't try to sound like Paul Di'Anno. And to reference Ripper again, contrary to popular belief, he was hardly a "Halford-clone". The list goes on and on. Forcing yourself to sound like someone sounds fake and lame. Just sing the proper notes in your own style.

It's hard not to sing in the same style. I love singing along to Into The Storm, and I emulate Hansi.

I don't think I make any faces...

Oh Jon, you so silly:

Quote
Listening to the new album I get a feeling that Stu tries to sing like Matt sometimes, going for the same kind of sound and vibe. Did you guys just decide he should do that or is his middle range just naturally similar to Matt's?

It's actually the song writing. I wrote when Matt was in the band too. The song writing dictates what the voice is gonna do, you know? It's not the other way around, which is what a lot of people that obviously don't write songs don't understand that. I hear that a lot, "Did you write that song for this guy's voice?" No, that's not how it works. You write the songs and then you have the singer that can do what the song requires. That's it. So no, I mean his middle range voice is just like that and it's also something that I think is gonna expand, you know? But he's got so many different tones to his voice that I think we're just sort of scratching the surface 'cause he's really starting to get into it and think about it. I mean I produced Matt, me and Jim Morris, but I spent all the demo time which is what we do early on in the process, it's me working with the singer. So I have the same influence on all the guys that I had with the exception of Tim on "Glorious Burden" because he came in after that album was already recorded, so that's a completely different scenario. But yeah it's the writing and the production man. That's where the sound comes from. And you have the musicians that can deliver the sound.

I'm pretty certain Jon has never heard a single Into Eternity song in his life.  He talks like he is developing Stu and grooming him from a novice singer.  No Jon, his middle range isn't like that, you told him to sound like Matt, don't you fucking lie.

I wish they'd scratch the surface a little more. Stu's got a lot more in him than Dystopia shows, and this comes from a person who likes Dystopia.

He's a darling as well:
