I won't pile on.  It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

I'm going to contact Vegas to see if we can't get lines on who will be the next person dismissed from Iced Earth and when it will happen.

Hello all,

As you have probably heard by now, I am no longer a member of Iced Earth. After four years of touring the world and living out my dreams, I have decided to leave the band. My reasons shall remain personal and are relevant only to those involved. I will however say that it had nothing to do with the commitment to a busy touring schedule or any financial reasons. Unless you hear the reasons from me, they are simply just speculation. I'd like to say "thank you" to everyone who has supported me along the way. For those of you that are interested, you will definitely hear from me again.

And now please welcome Luke Appleton with open arms. He is an awesome bass player and a great guy. We had lots of fun touring together with Fury UK, and I was very happy to hear that he will be taking over. I wish him and my fellow brothers in Iced Earth only the best for the future.

Should we just blame Schaffer? :neverusethis:

LMAO about the latest lineup change.  But I guess they went more than a few months without someone getting replaced so they were about due.

BTW, I caught them in early march in Atlanta, and they were really on top of their game.  The show was a bit shorter than I'd hoped considering they were by themselves (no Symphony X) and played only 90 minutes or so.  However, the performances were dead on, and Stu really distinguished himself in a way I hadn't seen since Matt was originally in the band.  Ripper was pretty solid in the Glorious Burden tour, but didn't really capture the emotion of some of the songs as well.  Matt was just plain horrible in his return (although I heard that was mostly due to his having a cold the night I saw them in Cleveland in 2008).  Stu was a great combination of the both, really hitting the high notes, and yet sounding pretty sinister when he could.  While Dystopia was a decent enough album, it hadn't quite hit the classic sounds of some of their earlier efforts, the newer stuff really smoked.  They also broke out a number of classic older tracks that hadn't been played in at least a decade, and it was great to hear Stu's take on some of them.

All in all, a very fun evening that made me think that IE just might really be back after a pair of mediocre albums and shows for the much-advertised Set Abomine concept album.  Let's hope things click well enough so that the lineup can remain relatively stable and they could up the quality on the studio albums.

BTW, I'd also like to see another effort with the Demons & Wizards side project.  Schaffer and Hani really have major chemistry and both albums were awesome.  Let's see some more.

Hello brothers and sisters!

It is my honor to share some great news with you.  Iced Earth will be supporting VOLBEAT on a North American tour starting on June 18, 2012. The bill is rounded off by HELLYEAH!

Tour Dates

I’m completely stoked, VOLBEAT is one of my all-time favorite bands, and Michael and the boys are great people.  There is a lot of mutual respect and admiration, and I think we are in for a hell of a good time!  This will be a package that won’t soon be forgotten, I’m sure of that.

I want to thank VOLBEAT for the invitation, and I look forward to many years of laying down the metal as both bands continue to grow and reach new audiences around the world.

We will see you on the road soon!

Forever the rebel,

Jon Schaffer

They're a cool band. I'd go to this if they were in Vegas a month earlier.

Michael (Volbeat) approached Jon some years ago as a die-hard fan and for some reason Jon started to endorse this band.. He was wearing Volbeat tees at the gigs and stuff.... When I asked Jon his fave band, he said Volbeat... I mean these are all fine..  and not that Volbeat are bad or anything... they are quite decent... BUT.... Iced Earth opening for them... WTF man??? serioulsy!!!

Matt Barlow is coming back... not to Iced Earth but to the music scene.... it tells a lot about the problems in the band.. doesn't it?

Well......he's doing a special guest appearance, I'm not sure that says a whole lot.

However in the last interview with Ripper I read he said that he and Barlow are actually friends and are talking about doing an album together.

Yeah but Matt has no quarrel with Jon. Iced Earth just isn't a good source of income for him. That's why he can only really do stuff like with Pyramaze and now this guest whatever with Artizan, whoever the hell they are. I'd actually like to hear what the two could come up with. Maybe it'll branch ou to an Ayreon type thing.

Also, Ripper said he isn't mad at Jon anymore, and he started incorporating IE tune(s) into his set.

Which IE tune did he incorporate?

And come on, a "Suck it Schaffer" CD would be amazing.

When The Eagles Cries.

Also, I think a "Sons Of Liberty is bad and you should feel bad" is a better title.

"Suck it Schaffer"
1. Iced Earth? More like Gay Earth.
2. The Eb shuffle.
3. Something Wicked this Way Cums on your Face.
4. Union 4 life.
5. 10 bucks if you can name Iced Earth's current Bassist.
6. Carrying the Weight of Jon on our Shoulders.
7. Vote Democrat.
8. Sons of Liberty is Bad and You Should Feel Bad.

Don't forget to unnecessarily palm mute everything to make should the riffs pack absolutely no punch.

Check, also make sure the double bass hits every single note I play on guitar.

Right! Also, we need to make sure the bass is as low in the mix as possible, and what can be heard lacks any creativity whatsoever. In fact, let's just not have a bass player.
