Hey Guinea, have you done an IE top 25/50 list yet? I'd very much like to read that.

I was thinking of doing this, but Guinea and others are much better in the writing department than I am. As long as I have the survivor though, I'm fine.

What's there to hate? Because it didn't sell well? I'm pretty sure current album sales are probably close to those numbers,

There's that, and he was dealing with a lot of shit at the time, mainly from Century Media. It's definitely reflected on the album, but that anger is what makes it so good.

That's a tough question because I don't really have a favorite Iced Earth album. I guess if I had to pick it would probably be Burnt Offerings. On any given day Dark Saga, Something Wicked or maybe even Horror Show could take over though.

Alive in Athens.

But a studio album....I dunno, my fav is Burnt Offerings, but it seems albums like Dark Saga, and SWTWC are considered more popular.

Has anyone ever met any of the guys currently in Iced Earth? I'm super pumped for the meet & greet, and I'm sure they're all cool guys (I hope), but does anyone have any similar characteristics to the Dream Theater guys (James not speaking, John being the ultra cool one, Mike being the all-around awesome guy, etc...)?

Nope, but on stage, Matt seemed very disconnected from the audience. However it was his first show back, so who knows.

Though I'm sure the bassist is gonna be nice, he seems awesome as a guy.

I haven't met any of them unfortunately, but from what I hear, Freddie's probably the friendliest of the bunch. Not to say the others are assholes, but Freddie seems to be really enjoying his stay with the band. Knowing Jon, he'll probably fire him first.

Don't ask Jon about Ripper though. He'll probably run off crying. In fact, just ask him what SPLATCH means. Please.

Last time they were here I was at the meet and greet. Schaffer and Barlow seemed to be in a bad mood, but rest of the guys were really nice.

Matt might have been sick, but were you giving Jon enough attention? Maybe someone said they liked Burnt Offerings. :neverusethis:

Well, the meet and greet was after the show so when I walked up to Jon I said how much I enjoyed the show and he just mumbled thanks and tried to hurry me down the line. He really didn't look like he wanted to be there.

YOU'VE GOT MAIL

"Hey it's from Jon."

Hey Fredward, I have an important message from Jon Schaffer. We regret to inform you that you're fired. You're an amazing bassist and bring tremendous spirit to the band, but I just have to let you go. It wouldn't seem fair to Troy and Brent who I just fires 5 minutes ago through E-mail also. I wish you the best in whatever you do. You are the killerest of bass players and the best I ever had.

Regards,

Jon Schaffer

I think their masterpiece is Night of the Stormrider, but the definitive IE album is Dark Saga.

When I met Jon, this was the first American tour since firing Tim, and I harbored a lot of anger and resentment.
I popped by the bus and caught Jon, chilling in his Gibson sweat pants. He came down and signed my set list and  shot the shit. I wanted so bad to give him a piece of my mind, but he was completely sweet and adamant that everyone who needed anything signed or any pictures got what they wanted. It was a big part of me letting that stuff finally subside. I realized that his decision making isn't to hurt the fans, but its for doing what he feels is truly right. Tim and Jon in a band together was a dream come true - albeit short in tenor. It was a time that came and went. I can't waste time pondering on the lost potential.

I would LOVE someone to walk in wearing a Tim Owens shirt or something. Or have Matt Barlow "The Glorious Burden" to sign.

GB still features backing vocals from Matt as well as two songs he helped pen, so it's no completely ridiculous. Framing Armageddon would be more (in)appropriate. Or even the first two albums.

Since none of the shows are anywhere near me, I did not buy tix. If they go anywhere in New England, I'd check it out.

I doubt this tour's coming to Canada, seeing as how we're bunch of crazy liberals who want to take away your freedom and your guns.

I really want to check this band out, but hell, I've got tons of other prog bands to check. Namely PoS, Opeth, Symphony X and Porcupine Tree.

Well shit...I might have to get tickets for the D.C. show depending on the job situation, just because if I get a new job in August I don't think I will be in position to ask for a Friday off in my first month.  Maybe I should sabotage my job interview for the sake of seeing an Iced Earth concert...
