All great songs thus far. Celestial Elixir might be my favorite from your picks at this point.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

29.   Manchester Orchestra – Simple Math – “Simple Math:”
The best song from 2011 so far. This honestly has the potential to move up into the top 10 at some point, depending on how well it ages. The brilliant lyrics and vocals are what stand out for me in this song. Also this has one of the greatest music videos I’ve ever seen. Thanks to ZepDT for making me watch this a while ago. I urge everyone to check out the video for this one if you haven’t seent it.

28.   Thrice – The Alchemy Index Vol III: Air – “Daedalus:”
This is the best Thrice song by far imo. I really don’t know how people find this cheesy, which is a very common criticism of this song. Just because the lyrics are from Greek Mythology doesn’t mean this song isn’t inspired or meaningful or anything.  Anyway, Dustin’s vocals are incredible here, especially when singing “OH GOOOOODS” near the end. Brilliant song.

27.   Alter Bridge – Blackbird – “Blackbird:”
Another extremely solid mainstream rock band. This is a solid contender for the greatest guitar solo ever, imo. It may not be very technical, but it’s nearly on a Comfortably Numb type level in terms of emotion. This may be the greatest song I’ve actually discovered through listening to the radio. They get plenty of airtime on modern rock radio, which is good.

The Blackbird solo is pretty good. I love the song as a whole though.

26.   Karnivool – Sound Awake – “New Day:”
Have to thank Soundscape for getting me into these guys. They were one of the first bands I checked out when I joined this forum about two years ago. They sound very similar to Tool at times, particularly in with their use of loud/soft dynamics. This song really shows off those dynamics well imo. Also their vocalist is fantastic. I wish these guys would tour the US at some point.

25.   Coheed and Cambria – In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 - “The Light and the Glass”, “21:13:”
The second best Coheed song followed by the best Coheed song! :D Both of these songs are very proggy and show off the band’s great songwriting ability. The vocal melodies in both songs are among the best I’ve ever heard in progressive rock. As greatful as I was to see them twice on the most recent SSTB tour, I’d really like to see at least one of these two songs live at some point. Hopefully on the next tour…

24.   In Flames – Colony – “Zombie, Inc.:”
I’ve loved this band for years. There’s a lot of criticism directed towards their newer material, but no one can argue with the greatness of their run from The Jester Race through Clayman. This particular song has one of my favorite guitar solos in the middle section, which is the sole reason for it being this high.

Nice list so far but I don't get all the love for "Blackbird" there are greater songs on that album.

Can't wait to see the rest of the list.

Daedalus is probably nr 6 or 7 if I would rank my favorite songs on The Alchemy Index, still a great song though.

23.   Dream Theater - Images & Words - "Learning to Live:"
The ultimate Dream Theater song. Nothing they ever do will top this. I don’t feel like I need to go into much detail here, seeing as it’s a Dream Theater forum we’re on right now. Also, I’m not providing a link because lolyoudon’tneedit.

22.   Riverside – Voices In My Head EP – “Acronym Love:”
The lyrics to this song make absolutely no sense. They’re probably that way because the band seems to have trouble with the language in their lyrics sometimes (or maybe it was intentional, I don’t know). Either way, this is a brilliant song and it’s become my favorite from the band over the last year or so.

21.   Porcupine Tree – In Absentia - "Collapse the Light Into Earth:"
This is one of the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. It’s also the best possible album closer for the greatest album ever. The real highlight here is the lyrics, which I think are possibly Steven Wilson’s best overall. The song makes me cry like a baby when the strings start coming in around 2:30 and onward. Absolutely brilliant. Funeral song right here.

Collapse the Light Into Earth is a top 5 PT song for me....love it to death.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges

I can't believe a song as average as The Light and the Glass made this list. Some other cool choices in here though.

Collapse is amazing! Learning to Live is amazing but slightly overrated by the forum IMO. Its my least favourite on the album (not saying much).
