Karnivool – Sound Awake – “New Day:” Have to thank Soundscape for getting me into these guys. They were one of the first bands I checked out when I joined this forum about two years ago. They sound very similar to Tool at times, particularly in with their use of loud/soft dynamics. This song really shows off those dynamics well imo. Also their vocalist is fantastic. I wish these guys would tour the US at some point.
25. Coheed and Cambria –
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 - “The Light and the Glass”,
“21:13:” The second best Coheed song followed by the best Coheed song!
Both of these songs are very proggy and show off the band’s great songwriting ability. The vocal melodies in both songs are among the best I’ve ever heard in progressive rock. As greatful as I was to see them twice on the most recent SSTB tour, I’d really like to see at least one of these two songs live at some point. Hopefully on the next tour…

In Flames – Colony – “Zombie, Inc.:” I’ve loved this band for years. There’s a lot of criticism directed towards their newer material, but no one can argue with the greatness of their run from The Jester Race through Clayman. This particular song has one of my favorite guitar solos in the middle section, which is the sole reason for it being this high.
