Great picks from Maiden and Opeth! Revelations is in my top 10 songs ever and The Moor is in my top 100! I listened to that Gojira song and it was awesome too! I'll work my way through the others. Loving the fast updates!

Thumbs up for Riverside... as much as I hate the "tasteful/tasteless" brands, I think Riverside are one of the most tasteful bands out there. Everything they do seems to have the right amount and placement of notes, the right atmosphere and the right production.

37.   Metallica – Master of Puppets – “Orion:”
This band gets way too much shit, especially here. They totally deserve it for their post-Justice material though. Anyway, this is their best song by quite a ways. It progresses a lot in its arrangement, which makes it a very interesting listen every time. The soft section with Cliff Burton’s bass is the big highlight here. He was an excellent player, RIP.

36.   Haken – Aquarius – “Celestial Elixir:”
Another prog epic that’s done right. This one is unique in so many ways though; the weird circus music fits it so well. It comes out of nowhere sometimes but it’s always awesome :lol. This song has one of the most memorable choruses I know of. The riff gets me every time. I as so surprised that Aquarius was this band’s debut album, the band sounds way too experienced for that. I’m really looking forward to what that can do on their next album!

35.   Sigur Rós – Ágætis Byrjun – “Olsen Olsen:”
This song took forever to grow on me. Sigur Rós always creates some of the most beautiful atmospheric music I’ve ever heard, this song included. The constant bassline that runs throughout the first part of the song is wonderful and the breaks where the flute comes in is just beautiful :heart I’d murder small children to see this band live. When is their hiatus over?!?!?

Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

I've had a liiiiiiiittle too much to drink to continue typing these, so here's the ones that I did.

34.   Deftones – White Pony - “Passenger:”
I first discovered Deftones, and this brilliant album, about 5 or 6 years ago. I’m pretty sure I was a freshman in high school. This was the first song I heard, and I ended up playing it on repeat because it was so good. :lol I was actually in shock when I played the rest of the songs on the album because it was a different vocalist! Maynards voice I think is better for the haunting mood that Deftones try to create than Chino’s, and that’s what got me into Tool.

33.   maudlin of the Well – Bath “Girl With a Watering Can,” “Birth Pains of Astral Projection:”
This is the first of the “song runs” that I mentioned before. The music Toby Driver creates is just so strange and addicting. I really need to listen to more of his material, tbh. Bath and Choirs of the Eye are the only albums I’ve really listened to. These two songs specifically are both breathtakingly beautiful and heavy and brutal at the same. It’s really incredible. (btw, links to both songs are included ^^^)

32.   dredg – Catch Without Arms – “Bug Eyes:”
This is the song that really made dredg click for me. I had listened to Pariah before list album and I liked it, but this song took it to a whole new level. Gavin’s voice is always fucking angelic, but it really shines in this particular song. So glad I got to see this live! It was so awesome.

31.   Porcupine Tree – Stars Die – “Stars Die:”
A note about Porcupine Tree in this list: if I had done a straight up top 50, PT would probably have about 10-12 of those songs. :lol I had to cut quite a few of their songs in order to allow room for other artists. Anyway, this song is absolutely beautiful. The middle section with the Nixon telephone call sample is the best use of a sample ever, imo. This song also shows how valuable Chris Maitland was for the early PT work. His drumming adds a great atmosphere to the song.

30.   Mew – No More Stories… – “Hawaii:”
Not sure I want to include this song anymore since Zack nearly ruined it last night by playing it on skype while he was drunk. :P This is an absolutely brilliant song, and really shows off the wonderful atmosphere that Mew can create with just a simple pop hook. This isn’t the last song from Mew on my list. The band is brilliant, and I would kill to see them live.

It took me quite a long time to compile this list. Probably about 4 hours or so. (and that doesn't include writeups)

Oh look, it's Porcupine Tree and Dredg, how surprising!

Nah but cool picks, love Stars Die, and Bug Eyes is great, but it's not a favorite of mine, I think CWA has 3-4 better songs, but oh well.
