This is a very late addition to my album of the year candidate. This album is phenomenal. Bone crushing riffs and vocals (great blend of clean and harsh vocals), solid musicianship, some blast beats...Some great orchestrations as well (almost middle eastern). 2nd half of the album sounds very Katatonia (last 3-4 albums).

emtee, if you are reading this, I think you are going to love this one. I think you and I have had very similar interests in bands.

Ayam is my favorite Metal record of 2022.

I would also highly recommend their other releases for those who don't know.

the 10 minute epic single "Alea"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isWusjdhrDs

also "Back to Times of Splendor" their debut album and the previous record to Ayam, "The Liberation"

They're a fantastic Atmospheric progressive metal band, who at 1 time, fans wondered if any new music would come again after "Gloria" their 2nd record. Why "Alea" was such a breath of fresh air when it came out.

Very enjoyable listen. Lots of contrasts between heavy and mellow. I can tell it will get better with repeat listens. Parts of it remind me of Dark Suns.

Excellent band. Ayam is indeed fantastic, and the previous album The Liberation is also excellent.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.
I be am boner inducing.

Really cool album that is looking likely to crack my top 20 of the year.

Ayam is indeed very good. It's grown on me significantly over repeated listens (not surprisingly, given the type of album). I think I like it better than The Liberation, which already was an excellent comeback.

I've definitely heard this band before, as I recognise the name, but it must have been years ago as I have no memory of what they sound like. Checking my Last.fm page, I see I listened to a few tracks back in 2010.

I'll definitely check them out again though on the back of this recommendation, as I love four of the five other bands you mention they are similar too. I'll also try some Bury Tomorrow as well, haven't heard them before.

I just finished my 2022 Rankings, and this album made the Top 20, and Abide The Storm made my Top 10 songs of the year.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

DISILLUSION was founded in 1994 and with each subsequent independent release, the band progressed in many ways and morphed into something much more. By the time their debut album “Back To Times Of Splendor” was released through Metal Blade Records in 2004, DISILLUSION were not only touring throughout Germany but also internationally with the likes of Amon Amarth and Impious.

Singer, main composer and founding member Andy Schmidt comments: “20 years, crazy, I’m so grateful for the huge impact this record had on so many people, fans, musicians, music lovers. And of course we never expected this. Thank You to everybody who supported us through all the years! Time to celebrate together on tour in spring.“

DISILLUSION’s long rich history has had many highlights, most recently being their last two albums "The Liberation" and "Ayam" charting in Germany, but “Back To Times Of Splendor” was an album that defined them as a band. It was a concept album of pure progressive death metal but still showed a huge range of emotion. From touching, almost fragile moments to brutal rhythmic outbursts - DISILLUSION melted all genre boundaries together and made an epic masterpiece which Metal Hammer Magazine heralded it as one of the best German metal albums of all time.

DISILLUSION will celebrate this milestone in 2024 by touring internationally, where they will perform “Back To Times Of Splendor” in its entirety. The first shows in Germany, Switzerland and Austria are on sale now with many more concerts and festivals to be announced soon.
