Effortlessly their best album since SDOIT, maybe Scenes. The only part I don't enjoy is the unison in BMU, BMD. I love everything else.

10

It's my 2nd favorite DT album

I think this is the best album since SDOIT (my fav)

Rankings:

BTS - One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Top 10 Worthy
BAI - I like it better than LTL, and I LOVE LTL, so another top 10 Worthy song
BITS - This and The Glass Prison are probably my favorite heavy DT songs. Love that riff at the beginning, and the chorus. Top 25 Worthy
FFH - Beautiful song, and I like it better than WFS, Top 25 Worthy
TITL - One of the best ballads DT has done, I can't explain how great it is. Right around top 25
LNF - Great song, and JR's solo, IMO, is one of the best he's done! Top 50 for sure
Outcry - Still hasn't clicked with me just yet, but still get's a top 50 spot
OTBOA - Hearing this for the first time was awesome, and glad it became one of my least favs from the album, as most of the singles do. Top 50
BMUBMD - My least fav from the album, but still a good song. Probably just outside my top 50

I'd rank this album as an 8.
There isn't a WEAK song on the album, but there are several points in several songs that feel a little weak to me, or unfitting to me. Lost Not Forgotten and Outcry both get dragged down by this notion.

With that being said, most of the songs on this album even make it on my top 15, even top 10.
Namely Bridges in the Sky, On The Backs of Angles, Far From Heaven, Build Me Up, Break Me Down, and Breaking All Illusions.

After 10+ listens, I give it a solid performance at a 9.5/10. Only I&W and SDOIT are above this in my rankings, which both are at a 9.5 and 9.75 respectively.

I give it an 8/10. I agree that it's their most consistent album since SDOIT, but on individual songs I don't feel I can quite edge it to a 9/10 yet.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

9/10. For comparison, Black Clouds was a solid 8, and Systematic Chaos was a slightly less solid 7.

This is tough for me.  I hate to even say this.....

The MUSIC is a solid 9/ 10.  But, I'm sorry, some of the lyrics and subjects are awful.  Bridges in the Sky is awful (the lyrics).  Why does DT have to write about such cheesy topics?  Please, bosk/ mods .... I'M NOT BASHING DT..... before you warn me..... this is my opinion.  I don't think I'm breaking any rules.  I really dislike a lot of the lyrics.  Myung's song is amazing, though.

9/10 for me so far. I don't think that it will reach the full 10, but there's no need for ADTOE to hide from Awake and even less from SDOIT.

9 for me.

Outcry finally clicked for me today. It's a very epic song, and one of their more unique songs that I can think of. That big endings is awesome, except for the fact that the last note leaves a weird feeling, almost a bad taste in your mouth.

The rest of the album is amazing, and up there with SDOIT, I&W, BC&SL, and SFAM

At the moment it's a strong 8. If Outcry can click for me, I think it can get a 9.

I'd rank the album as #4 (after Images, SFAM, 6DOIT) at this current state. Although I did rank BCSL at #4 straight after release, I think this one will age better for me.

Is that in an insult or a compliment? Personally I think that song has some of JP's best lyrics in years. If you know exactly what the song is talking about, it's even better.

I don't like the topic of the song nor do I care for the lyrics.  I think the topic is very uninteresting and juvenile.  It's the "Count of Tuscany" or "Dark Master" of this album.  Nowhere near as bad, but..... still.  My only complaint, lyrically, though.

Probably an 8 or 9 at this point.  We'll see how it holds up over time.

For reference, I'd give every other post-SDOIT DT album like a 5 or 6, I think.

Outcry easily has the worst lyrics on this album, by a long shot.  And even that is still better than TBOT from the previous album.

... as someone who's done a lot of online research of the subject, as well as talked about it with various people, it's easily one of the most interesting, mysterious subjects to discuss. It's a shame scientists don't study these drugs anymore, the potential findings we can make from it about understanding out brain and reality is amazing. Did you know DMT is the strongest hallucinogen in the world? It's the chemical that creates dreams in the brain during sleep (what many scientists think). It is also released right before death, creating heaven-like experiences. People who have done these drugs claim they are life-changing, and during the trips, you expereince what seems to be another dimension/true reality/entities, and more.

It isn't false, from what scientists have studied, they are almost certain that it's the chemical. It's impossible to tell for sure though, because the brain is far too complex to understand fully. I'll edit my post to mention it isn't 100% confirmed.

There's no way I can attempt to put this album in a ranking unitl I've had it over a year. Since SDoIT all new DT releases
start out strong for months and then they settle into place. 8V fell. SC fell ToT fell. BC&SL fell. Not that they were bad
just that time and multiple plays were required. If I were to *guess* I'd say it will end up at #5 for me which means it
will likely rank atop the latter day DT albums...but time will tell.

Any facts to back that up? Ive also heard that that is what DMT is.

It isn't.  It has never even been found in the human brain.  All the stuff you guys are reading on the internet is going around because some dude wrote a book full of baseless speculations about DMT's supposed actions in humans, based on some bogus "research" in the 70s.  Very, very little is actually known about the purpose of endogenous DMT in the human body.

But despite that, the burden of proof is on the ones making the claim.  What "facts" do you have that support your inclination to believe this stuff that you've read online?

Way off topic I know, sorry mods.

9/10 to me. Regarding DT albums, 10/10 is the realm of SDOIT and SDOIT only *to me*. It is joining the "9 club" with SFAM and Awake.  ;D

Now let's see how it ages. I have high hopes, specially after BCSL, which aged awfully to me. It started as an OK album, and now it is dead last on my DT list...

A lot of fanboyism here. I go with a 7 as well. Solid album with a couple of great songs. I feel that the fact that JP wrote all the drum parts makes it not as great as it could be. They are going back to their prog roots, something I enjoy a lot but still a lot of the new era metal that I don't enjoy that much.
