It is! That part was taken from the tango "Canaro en París" (1925) about the success of violinist, composer and orchestra director Francisco Canaro on his Paris tour.

10. Powderfinger - Pick You Up (Brisbane, Aus)

I was hoping for Men At Work, but I guess Melbourne is too far?  Just kidding

Could never stand Men at Work personally.  Something about Colin Hay I don't like.  Overkill is a fine song though.

So far all the songs meet the criteria, but I should have noted, "and that get played a lot anyway", not obscure songs that no one has ever heard of.

Metro

Clearly directed at my choice, but you don't get to change the rules because you don't recognize the song  :P

HAHAHA, I was very worried about that. No, not you. Honestly, it was the Guns and Roses that triggered that clarification. It wasn't that you missed it, but that Vmadera nailed it.  That was EXACTLY the direction I was headed in.  I've actually liked Ghost since seeing them open for Maiden.  Not my main band, but interesting nonetheless.

Metro

Ah I see, no worries  :tup

I used to love Ghost and saw them every time they came to town, and I even drove 3 hours to Raleigh to see them once. I missed the tour where opened for Maiden, still kicking myself for that.
The new album just felt like a parody to me. Specifically the aforementioned song. I listened to it recently after avoiding for like 3 months and my opinion hasn't changed. It's made me not even want to revisit their older stuff that I loved.

9. Losing My Religion - R.E.M.

Ouch, I always liked those two, for the percussion, and for the mandolin.

Cool Chris

Great stuff on this list - and by great I mean in keeping with the spirit of the theme.

Sweet Home Alabama is a song I never liked even when I was big in to classic rock and Skynyrd. Though it always makes me smile when Lee Corso picks Bama and the guitar intro hits.

I first heard Shake It Off in the film Sing. I thought "well this is a crappy song, but it's in a kid's movie, so whatever." I couldn't believe it when I later found out it was not written for the film. It was actually a popular song on a popular album by a popular artist.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

LithoJazzoSphere

"Sweet Home Alabama" is of those songs that has cool parts in it (especially Billy Powell's piano solo), but it's been played way out of proportion to everything else in culture, so I never need to hear it again.  Same with Journey's "Don't Stop Believing", plus I have personal baggage from a situation with someone, so that just rubs salt in the wound.

Kwyjibo

I really like Sweet Home Alabama, but I agree that it's seriously overplayed.

And I really like Sweet Child O' Mine.

Yep, Sweet Child O Mine is a masterpiece, no matter how many times it gets played. I'm ready to fight over this one

LithoJazzoSphere

It's way overplayed, but I don't mind it instrumentally.  Good guitar picking exercise too.  I just can't stand Axl's voice.  Much rather hear Slash with Myles or either Snakepit vocalist.  Rod Jackson on Ain't Life Grand is criminally overlooked.
