Online you vs Real you
« on: September 10, 2011, 02:37:00 PM »
Now, I'm probably not the only one who has noticed this, but I find that I act completely different on the internet than I do in real life. In real life (I think Rich can testify to this, not Jon quite so much) I tend to be quite quiet and shy, and I generally just don't talk very much. Also, I'm not as emo as I appear to be in real life, I'm generally a happy, if melancholy, person. However on the internet, I'm incredibly crude. And flirty. And talkative. And very, very. very, Emo.

So guys, are you anything like how you appear to be on the internet?

I'm a lot easier to take seriously as a human being in real life, for starters.

:wall of text with offensive statements and weird opinions:

Also, I am a lot more coherent in person.  I hope.

In real life, I'm not talkative at all (mostly because I don't know what I should talk about), rather shy and introverted. I guess my user title really applies to me in real life. Also, I have a horrible wannabe-British accent mixed with a thick German/Austrian one.
Online... I don't know. I'm not really different, I guess.
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"

I'm pretty much the same. I don't pay attention to what I'm saying a lot of the time, only to realize that I said something really, really stupid. The only difference is that online I can edit my posts.

Yup. For the most part, I'm pretty quiet in real life around most people. I try to keep myself quiet because my weird sense of humor would not be appreciated by most people I come in contact with.  :lol

Wouldn't you just talk about the morning? You seem to be pretty good at that.

I like myself more in text.  I don't consider myself to really change my persona when it comes to being on the internet, but I do think that I just find it easier to be bolder and have more of a voice in most things done through the medium of websites and forums and social networking and other internet-related things.  I guess.

I think I'm mostly the same IRL, I just don't cuss as much and I don't make many crude jokes. But I'm still a blunt, sarcastic ass.

I'd say I'm about the same; so, as you can imagine, most people IRL want to strangle me.

People only want to strangle you so they can shave your hair off your corpse and wear it like a hat.

I don't exist in real life. My life on this board is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of DTF. I am the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite Bosks sincerest efforts he has been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden to sedulously avoid it, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led me, inexorably, here.

Depends on who I'm around in real life. If I'm just meeting you, I'm pretty reserved and quiet (unless I'm drunk, in which case who knows). If we're friends I'm a lot more like I am on DTF.

I think I'm about the same. The big difference, online I tend to go over stuff I write, consider how I word it and so on. In real life, I generally just shoot from the hip.

I'm not very kind on the Internet because I don't come to forums like these to make friends, I just want an outlet to talk about my interests.  In real life, I'm much more nice and agreeable, and very introverted.

I'm pretty similar, but that depends on who I am talking to:

Mom and dad: Apathetic, nasty, typical teenage shenanigans.
Friends: Funny, perverted, giddy when speaking of those whom I like (JLB, Dani Filth, etc)
Best friend: Perverted, cynical, giddier than normal (when speaking of JLB or Dani)
Sis: See "mom and dad", but amplified
Stranger: Chilled, nice, try to be as helpful as possible
Younger kids: REALLY nice, try to play it up

So it really depends.

I am very similar to this, although I can't say that I haven't grown to at least consider a few people here my friends.

I'm just as much of an obnoxious ass. It's just that I'm a little more subtle in real life. I won't tell you you're being a fucking moron, I'll imply it until everyone gets the general idea.

I'm really introverted and quiet in real life, and I rarely open up to people in real life because I have major trust issues.

I act pretty much the same online as I do around my best friends. Incredibly open. Lets just say I felt like home when I first joined the forum with all the homo eroticism... lol. IRL when I am around almost everyone else beside my family and close friends, I am very shy... very quiet. I tend to stutter and slur a lot which doesn't help. lol. I am truly myself here and around certain people.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I'm far more shy in real life and less likely to just simply start talking with people, but also the difference is that on the internet I only say anything in places where I want to be, while IRL there are some places I simply can't avoid.

Other than that... not much difference.
