There is no good three song run on SC. Too many poor songs.

This is such an incredibly poor album.   I really can't even find a decent two song run on this album.   TDEN is really good.  Part 1 of ITPOE is just OK.  TMOLS is pretty good.   Forsaken and Repentance are just dull.  Constant Motion and ITPOE2 are just silly.   And POW is just bloody awful.

But since the best song is at least two songs away from anything even remotely salvageable....

I guess CM-Repentance would be the least worst section.

Tough option but I went with:

In the Presence of Enemies Part 1/Forsaken/Constant Motion

Unfortunately I can't pick anything with PoW in it, so the last 3 options are out.  I'll reluctantly go with the 1st.

Last option... I actually love TMOLS and ITPoE part 2 (both took a long time to grow on me though), and even PoW is decent imo. How's that for a controversial opinion on DTF  :P

Completely agreed.

This, except for the taking a long time to grow on me part.
Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

Easily In the Presence of Enemies Part 1/Forsaken/Constant Motion.  In fact, I would put it in the running for best three-song run in the entire discography.  I'm not sure it is the best, but I am really hard pressed to think of many three-song runs that are as strong.  If only the rest of the album was anywhere near this consistently good as these three songs.

EDIT:  Yeah, after taking a quick look at track listings, it's interesting to note that my "best 3-song runs" come from the most recent half of the discography.  Here are the others I would put up near the top:

Misunderstood/The Great Debate/Disappear
The Great Debate/Disappear/Six Degrees
Vacant/Stream of Consciousness/In the Name of God
Never Enough/Sacrificed Sons/Octavarium
This is the Life/Bridges in the Sky/Outcry
