XJDenton - do you mean the mix for just Periphery or throughout the whole night? Because I personally thought DT sounded fantastic!! But with Periphery the vocals seemed to get completely lost in the other sounds!

the Periphery guy can sure as hell sing, he's actually pretty good imo.

tbh I'd prefer to see DT at a smaller venue, Sheperds Bush/Hammersmith Apollo rather than Wembley. and for goodness sake, without the seats.

glad everyone enjoyed it though, a few of my friends went and said that it was a great night. they also commented on how the atmosphere would've been better without seats but there you go...

Edit: one of my friends "The Spirit Carries On was just absolutely insane, incredibly insane"

Just Periphery. DT sounded phenomenal.

On the road home. Periphery were better than I thought they would be. Couldnt understand the singer though, going in with no prior knowledge of their songs. Also I'm pretty sure during their last song the singer said "Alright London its time to sit down as best you can", mocking the crowds unwillingness to give any feedback.

He needs a new script writer.  He said the same thing at the Glasgow show.

I think their main problems are that hardly anyone at the shows know them at all and from what I can see from others comments. whoever is doing their FOH mixing is doing a poor job of getting the vocals somewhere near a listenable level.  Also, it's not very good saying there are CD's and T-Shirts of our band out the front and then slagging off the very people you want to buy your stuff five minutes later.

The guy is a tool to be honest.

Well as a support act, you have to remember no-one is there to see you.  They are there to see the main event.  A lot of people may have never even heard any of your stuff either.  You have two jobs as a support act.  One is to get the crowd all warmed up for the main guys.  And two is to get yourself known and to impress people so much that they become fans of your as well.

They failed in both areas for mine.  But that is just my opinion, I'm sure there are other people who think they are wonderful and that's cool too.

not true. I know a few of my friends were going specifically to see Periphery because they haven't been in the UK for ages and they are huge fans. Of course they stayed on for DT but they were there for Periphery especially.

I'd say, from what I've heard, that they did a good job in getting the crowd warmed up for DT - they played Racecar, over 15 mins long and their most proggish accessible song. That's what got me into them. However, I can understand if they failed here. A seated arena really does not help - just watch the video of them playing Icarus Lives in Paris and contrast the crowd there (no seats) to the ones in the UK  :-\

Meh, thinking about it now that does come off fairly stupid but it's only a light hearted joke in my mind. Being a seated venue it really didn't help.

The mix for DT wasn't that great. James could have been boosted and Jordan as well. Couldn't really hear myung at all ... mangini and petrucci where perfectly mixed though.

I also didn't think the seats made that much of a difference for DT everyone stood up anyway maybe for a band like Periphery it would have been better standing.

I also got a few songs recorded from the set list .... any requests?

I'm new to the forum, and quite new to the band, this was the first time to see them live.  I really enjoyed it; as others have said here, the venue was perhaps not the best (seated, too big, poor sound compared to other places), but the band certainly put on a show.  One question for those of you that have seen them more often: does LaBrie always spend so much of the set off-stage?  It's not a criticism, and I guess it's tough to stand around during long instrumental parts, but it seemed to me he was off stage more than he was on...
Thx, RP

Yes. They tried to get him a little more involved on stage a few years ago - mostly by banging on a tambourine - but they've since 'regressed' (or 'progressed', depending on your perspective) to having him leave the stage for many instrumental passages.

Oh man oh man, was that an awesome gig.

I haven't posted because I haven't had a lot of time :P. But it was the second time I've seen DT in less than 9 months, and by god I absolutely loved it! Seriously, can't wait for them to come to the UK again, because I am getting a ticket for all dates. Serious.

I almost had an orgasm during the spirit carries on.

Obviously this gig was a little while ago now, but I saw this thread and I thought I'd comment.

What I hated most about the seats was the fact that everyone sat through Periphery, and when DT came on, everyone stood up (defeating the point of having seats) and having the seats took away the vibe of being squashed up between people which I always like at gigs.

One thing I'd really like to ask is, did anyone  notice JR sitting down at one point, I think maybe when JLB was talking, with his back to the audience? What was that about?

Anyone else here meet MM at Wembley Drum Center earlier during the day? I also bought some of his signature sticks and my god they are heavy as  :censored. Anyway here are some pictures of me with the genie ;)
