Great interview, but I'll just let you know that you should edit your post so the thread title fits the correct format for interviews posted here-

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

"This is what I want to do, what I love doing, and it’s the kind of music I was born to write and play. So if there’s no question about that, then you can move on and react in a positive way"
"I’ve been writing this kind of music from the beginning, so there’s no reason to stop."

That's about as strong as JP statements have been about recent events and I find them quite piquant.

Good interview. puts to rest the idea that Mangini just played what was written for him. And the MP question is handled well as usual from JP. Portnoy please take note, though I think the interviewer probably missed the "n't" from this quote-

"It certainly doesn’t mean it was(n't) hard for us, it certainly doesn’t mean that it wasn’t emotional and heartbreaking, which it was, but it hits that point where you realise that things change in life, you embrace that change and move on, and make sure you focus on your strength..."

I found it interesting that he used the one amp for the entire album. And even though it was fairly likely, if not certain anyway, it's nice to hear him mention coming to Australia again.

Great interview.

Nice interview.  Thanks for posting.  All the guys just sound genuinely stoked with this record.  And not in the normal 'this is the best thing we've ever done' sort of way.  Just genuinely excited.  Can't wait.

That's not a marriage term, that's the word "marriage."  It's an apt word, seeing as beyond man and wife it means close unions, of any kind.

puts to rest the idea that Mangini just played what was written for him.

Let us all remember this, for lots of people will be criticizing the band (or JP rather) for writing all the drums instead of Mangini. MM was given the basic feel or idea, and took off with it.

If you know people who would make any such criticism, then the best advice I can give you is, stop hanging out with doofuses.

People here (but mostly on other music forums/sites) think JP wrote all the drums parts.  I'm saying we need to keep other informed that they are mistaken

MP Zealots are striving to anything they can to bash the new incarnation of DT, that's for sure.

Who cares even if JP did write the drum parts? Mangini still played them (and from what we've heard does a fantastic job), and he'll write his own parts in future when he'll be with them for the writing phase of the album.

Petrucci is more than capable of coming up with drum parts.

He also programmed some things that were very unorthodox, things that I wouldn’t come up with. Like hitting the snare drum as if it was a cymbal or something you know? Or some beats that were just wicked. So, I learned the drum machine beats, and then I changed a percentage of them, say about 70 percent.. And I went in and John just said ‘OK, play what you think.’ So I had complete influence and control and complete everything. But the funny thing is, and this is the reason that I’m so happy to be in this band, is because even when I played omething on the drums and I had a feeling about ‘hmm, I’m not too sure about that.’ Petrucci echoed it. He would say the same thing and ask me to try something else. Then I’d try something else.
Old interview, but if any still has any doubt whether JP wrote all of MM's parts, slap "70 percent" into their faces.  :)

btw, I wonder what tones JP will come up with the Axe-FX. It's an amazing piece of hardware, even if considering that it's price is almost same as the Mark V.

Holy cow!  Blabbermouth has a news item about this interview and they posted a photo as well.  Check out this photo.  Is that one of the band members homes?  Look at the Majesty symbol on the table and the cover artwork on the walls.

Haha.  Is it possible all the DT stuff in that photo is photoshopped in?  If it's real, that's crazy cool.

It's photoshopped in, along with the giant ant running along the picture frame. Neat idea though.

It actually seems legit to me, error analysis on it seems good, too:

I love that he used Superior Drummer, a program I also enjoy very much.  I feel like my life is complete in some way.
