Add Periphery to the DC show! I love those guys!

a little background. periphery started as one guy named misha mansoor who posted tons of demos on soundclick.com. eventually jake bowen (jordan rudess key tech, JP's relative) joined, along with other band members. They are a part (really one of the leaders) of the recent 'djent' movement, although it is not a genre, like many believe. 4 singers later, they have a solid lineup. they only have 1 full cd, and an EP.

Racecar (IMO their best. 15 mins long)

O. M. G.

This would be an awesome show - I'm jealous.

Btw, just curious:

They are a part (really one of the leaders) of the recent 'djent' movement, although it is not a genre, like many believe.

I've heard the "djent is not a genre" opinion lots of times and I'm just curious why you say that. In my (humble) opinion, there is plenty in the sound of the "djent" bands to set it aside as a separate genre. Or at least a sub-genre of metal (e.g. progressive metal).

I really wish they were opening for DT in Atlanta.  Although, I am still holding out hope that I will get to see them on the Frak the Gods tour in St Louis.

djent is describing one guitar technique. a metallic sounding heavily muted stacked power chord. people somehow need to classify everything so they blew that word up. they are a progressive metal band, who utilize the djent chord every now and then.

I see what you're saying but I think the sound of djent bands is significantly different from what we're used to as "progressive metal" that it deserves some kind of new genre name. Certainly the focus on technicality is similar, but that can be said for other genres too (like technical death-metal).

 If they use any more compression or drop tuning on their 8 string guitars only whales will hear them.
