So I have a new girlfriend and everytime I get a new GF I introduce them to DT. So I sit down and explain to her the history of DT and play her the friendlier songs to get her into them. So far so good and then she tells me she loves watching drummers! sweet!!! So I tell her about MP's drumming dvd's and we sit down and watch portions of BC&SDrumming video, the SysDrumatic Chaos then Drums of Thoughts dvd's. After that we watched some of Live at Budokan and Chaos in Motion then the Spirit Carries On documentary bringing MM into the band then I played her OTBOA and some live footage from the latest Euro Tour..
First off she's digging the material I've been playing for her and I think the more she hears it the more she'll understand and know the songs.
But hearing about the MP saga and then watching MM's intro into the band she had some thoughts and things to say I hadn't thought of or noticed.
First, watching the drum dvd's in reverse order she noted how MP on BC&SD seemed to just be playing the songs and going backwards she noted more excitement with MP in each prior dvd. I had never really noticed this before, but she was dead on. The last MP dvd just seemed to be going through the motions. On BC&SD she was able to hear the words and pointed out how "The Best of Times" and "The Count of Tuscany" really pointed to his departure in her mind and wondered if MP had written either of these songs. We found out MP wrote TBOT's.
Watching the TSCO Documentary she really felt MM fit the band, even though I would not tell her who got the gig and let her find out for herself, she was hoping for MM. She just felt as we all did that he was humble, down to earth and his playing was amazing. She pointed out things with his playing I never even noticed. Can I be more lucky finding her! ;-) One thing too she pointed out was MP's tattoo sleeving progression I hadn't noticed and how that didn't fit the other members.
So then I play some of the live videos from YouTube and when one with MP came up she actually got pissed at me and said "Why are you playing videos with the old guy" LOL She's clearly a MM fan and totally digs OTBOA!
We're both in our late 40's, I've been a fan since the early 90's, but her perspective on things blew me away. I can't wait to hear more thoughts the more she hears and sees the band. I just thought I'd share this, pretty cool IMO!
