The point is to express love and respect for someone who obviously means a great deal to them.  It's not for Grandpa to see it and feel good.  It's for everyone else to see and feel good.  Also, saying "I hope you still remember us" might suggest that Grandpa is dealing with Alzeimer's.

If it "always aggravates" you to see others expressing their love and respect for their elders, especially their ancestors, then maybe Facebook is not for you.

Idk, maybe its just me growing up keeping that stuff private and between the people who knew the person. Something about making it public like that just gets under my skin.

When my mom died earlier this year, I posted someone like "I love you, Mom, and I miss you."  I don't know.  I felt the need to express something, and I didn't want to say "is bummed because his mom died".  Also, most people who know me also knew my mom.

I don't always know the person being spoken of, but when others post something like that, I take it the way I see it intended: as a public expression.  Maybe not everyone is comfortable with that, but it just seems weird to me that someone would actually find it aggravating.  For most people the whole point of Facebook is to bare yourself.  Your thoughts, your likes and dislikes, who your friends are, and the pictures you have of them.  I was serious when I said that if seeing that kind of thing pisses you off, then maybe Facebook is not for you.

I agree with Orbert. It's a way for people she knows to remember her grandpa...Like that he remains in the memories of those who cherish him and therefor, he is still there somehow.

Breast cancer awareness.  Women are writing where they like to put their pocketbook.

Same thing happened last year when women were posting the color of their bra as their status, but only the color.
Dear Santa,
Please kill Icy for Christmas.

Love,

Everyone

Perhaps they should take into consideration how someone who's unaware of the meaning would interpret that....

That would make sense, except, I thought breast cancer was not a laughing matter.

Whatthehell does that have to do with breast cancer? *sigh* I don't "get" half of the things that are done for "awareness"... and I'm a girl! meh

Last year the girls posted what their bra color was for that day. Drove me mad for 5 days before I figured out what it was all about

When I was explaining to a guy what those statuses meant, some girl said, "Well it was SUPPOSED to be a secret from men."  I then replied, "Because men aren't allowed to be aware of breast cancer."

Pwnt.

This is so damn silly. I doubt these women realize how ass backwards this is to the cause they claim to support. It makes it look like they don't take it seriously at all.

Yeah I just don't get it. I'm all for breast cancer awareness, but shit like this doesn't really promote awareness.

How does

"I like it on the table"

translate to

"Be aware of breast cancer"?
