First impressions on the new single?

I'm sure it will grow on me but that was the first song of theirs in a long time, that had a part that I didn't really like. The 'miracle, miracle, miracle' chorus doesn't really do it for me. It reminded me a bit of the first time I ever heard the band (with The Price). I was turned off by all the 'ah-ahh-ahhhhhhhh-ahhhhhhh-ahh's, which is hilarious now I think back to it  :lol

I liked the rest of the song though to be fair. Also, the bits at around 1:21 & 4:23 are straight out of a Led Zeppelin song (but I can't think for the life of me which one).

I just saw on Apple Music, that their (not anymore) standalone single Castaway Angels will also be on the album, which makes me VERY happy. Castaway Angels is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard last year and it would have been a pity if it disappeared somewhere between Pitfalls and Aphelion, not appearing on any physical format.

Also, the album will be 56 minutes long apparently, and have 10 songs.

the tracklist (according to https://www.omerch.eu/shop/leprous/products/leprous-aphelion-star-exclusive-star-gatefold-creamy-white-2lp-plus-cd)

01. Running Low
02. Out Of Here
03. Silhouette
04. All The Moments
05. Have You Ever?
06. The Silent Revelation
07. The Shadow Side
08. On Hold
09. Castaway Angels
10. Nighttime Disguise
11. A Prophecy To Trust
12. Acquired Taste (Live 2021)

The Apple Music page appears to end at Nighttime Disguise, so I guess A Prophecy To Trust is a bonus track (& the live track, obviously  :P)

I didn't like it, which is surprising for me, as I really liked The Congregation, Malina and Pitfalls. The "miracle, miracle, miracle" reminded me of "I wanna let it out, let it out, let it out" from At the Bottom.

I still think the album will be good, but I didn't expect to be that sour on the first single.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Man, those vocal melodies are stellar.

I love how they're calm, then build in rhythm with to the climax of the chorus, where he sings "Miracle, Miracle, Miracle...Ahhhahhhahahh!"

And also, that is an awesome cello solo.

I wouldn't say that I didn't like it on the whole, but there were parts I wasn't overly enthusiastic about. I think one area this band always excels is with it's strong, powerful choruses. This unfortunately falls short for me, after a few listens. I have no doubt it will grow on me and I LOVE the direction they've gone on the last few albums.

Like you Ev, I was just surprised that I didn't like it more than I did.

Not an official source, but I don't know if anyone would make these lengths up  ;)

Usually, Burning Shed is pretty reliable when it comes to track lengths, but strangely the album isn't available there yet (although BS is listed on the linktree for pre-orders).

Maybe it's because InsideOut have had some problems lately because a few of their employees got sick (I guess of Covid) and they had to shut down the whole label for some time. I hope everyone is fine there and they can restart again without problems. IO can usually be counted on, as they always sell top notch products (the vinyl on that label is ALWAYS perfect, I never bought anything IO related that wasn't of good pressing quality) and have very good customer service. But it is a fairly small label, I hope this doesn't have any consequences for them.

After a few listens, I can say I like "Running Low" a lot. Everything is so well-crafted. Beautiful sound, melodies and overall atmosphere.

It'll be interesting to see how it fits with the rest of the album, though. Hoping there's a bit of variety in tempo and such.

That wouldn’t surprise me at all since they haven’t released a single album deserving less than a 9/10.

So I never listened to this band until today when Silent Revelation played on the radio. Really liked that song. Then I went and listened to Running Low and The Price and also like those songs.

I'll be checking out their music and hopefully it's something I enjoy.

I started their discography in chronological order. Tall Poppy Syndrome is a solid album. Fate has some really powerful lines, instant favorite from the album.

Bilateral is not as strong as Tall Poppy, but it has some good tracks and really good instrumental moments.

Going to try and get through the other 4 albums before Friday  :metal

Having just listened to Aphelion for the first time, I'll need to listen a bit more before saying too much, but Nighttime Disguise surprised me a lot. At first, it just sounded a lot like The Sky is Red, but that changed pretty quickly. I had a moment of "Wait, Einar can sing low too?!". And also an element of his vocals that hasn't seen the light of day since The Congregation shows up at the end, probably the best sounding that has ever sounded. Talking of harsh vocals of course.

Also the slide guitar part in All the Moments at the very beginning was unlike anything Leprous has done ever, and it was fantastic. The slide part in Running Low was also really cool, I hope they utilize that even more in the future.

This album is so bloody good.

My favourites are Out of Here (such an amazing melody), and Nighttime Disguise (which I wasn't so keen on at first but the way it builds and the intensity at the end are just incredible).
