You like enough lighter-sounding obscure prog for him to be happy, you're the last person who needs to be worried :lol

And I would expect Marco to be a good sport and give you all some guidelines since he doesn't post so awfully much in the GMD ::)

It's a good song, this one. Doesn't leave a huge impression on me but that might change later, when Restless was first put online I had the same reaction and after hearing the album I grew really fond of it.

Looks like the album is officially "out" on Amazon Germany.
If someone here ordered the CD from Amazon Germany, you should probably have the MP3 version in Amazon cloud player for free. You can listen to it - and tell us what you think ;D

Bought Bilateral off of Amazon last night, it came with autorip which made me happy.

I didn't expect the album to sound like that...Wow, easily one of the best albums I've heard. I love his warm low voice, his highs are powerful too.

So, the new album was released in Germany today. Do we have any German Leprous fans here who can give us their impressions?

And I got Coal today, but I haven't listened to it yet. Will probably do so tomorrow! :)

I consider TPS and Bilateral equal in quality overall. The title track of TPS however is boring, a good example of progressive self indulgence.

Bump.

I saw these guys live yesterday. They co-headlined a show with Riverside, with another band called Vulture Industries opening for them. It was weird because I think Leprous were supposed to headline initially, but then Riverside was added to the show, and it became a co-headline or whatever, since they both played about 1 ½ hour each, Riverside maybe 10 minutes more or so.

Anyhow, had never heard Leprous before, but they really impressed me. The thing is that when it comes to live-shows, I always tend to enjoy it much more when I'm familiar with the songs, so an unknown band rarely impress me that much. But I really liked them, and as soon as I got home, the first thing I did was to get the last three albums. I especially liked the singer, who had this pretty normal voice for the most part, but they finished with a really heavy and intense song, where he just screamed his hearts out. Shit was so intense.

Will see if I enjoy the albums as much, hopefully I will. :)

Wow, that's epic! I'm a huge Leprous fan, love them to death. Sadly their only show here this year will be the day before a major exam, so I probably can't go :( Did they happen to finish with Contaminate Me? If so, that would be awesome! Ihnsahn actually does the lead vocals on the album, but I'd not be surprised if Einar can pull them off live just as well.

Each Leprous album is amazing, and great to start with. I started with Bilateral when that one came out, but I think their newest, Coal, is even better. Coal is way darker and more serious though, while Bilateral is a bit more 'comical' sometimes. Their debut, Tall Poppy Syndrome, is also great, but I like Bilateral and Coal better. Have fun listening!

Yeah, Contaminate Me sounds like the song they finished with. The last minutes with the intense screaming was just... intense.  :hat

Yeah, I love that song as an album closer. Awesome! It seems now I should make some time and start studying even earlier so that I can go to the Leprous concert...

Coal has been growing on me quite a lot lately to the point where I now like it a lot, but I don't think it compares to Bilateral, which was easily the best album from 2011. Coal would be a lot better if they edited a few songs down a bit. As it is, "Foe," "Echo," and "The Valley" (and I fucking love "The Valley") just kinda meander pointlessly for far too long with Einar's ooooooohing. I like Einar's vocals, but there's a point where enough is enough.

Still, good-to-great album and I'm pretty damn pleased with it now. :)

Bump.
...Anyhow, had never heard Leprous before, but they really impressed me...

:omg: surely zantera's kidding. nothing slips past them ears, especially a strong AOTY candidate (Bilateral) that got discussed round these parts 'enough' two years ago.

...I saw these guys live yesterday...

gawdangit, way too many of my favorite bands are euro and dont come within half a continent of me.

...or are instrumental and dont tour, anyways.

as for Coal, The King in Crimson, i agree...like it a lot, but my ridiculously high expectations wanted it that much sicker.
wish i were the producer; trim a few parts, change a few decisions...and get to hear the alternate version of Foe.

...The thing is that when it comes to live-shows, I always tend to enjoy it much more when I'm familiar with the songs, so an unknown band rarely impress me that much. But I really liked them...

agreed. the best example of a band that blew me away live after having never even heard of em was Candiria in 2000. still one of the best shows ive ever been to.

Same here. I think the songs are fine the way they are.

My current ranking:
1. Coal
2. TPS
3. Bilateral

But TPS and Bilateral are very close.

I like Coal, but not as much as the first two. Some of the songs are amazing, but some are just... there. Chronic in particular just has a chorus that is fairly uninteresting to begin with, and repeats SO MANY TIMES. The song feels twice as long as it is, and drags the album down a bit.

Bilateral is their best IMO.

Haven't really checked into this thread very often, but since I'm a huge Leprous fan, I guess I should mention here that Coal is definitely on my list of favourite albums released this year so far, Top 3 for sure!

I'm fairly certain that Coal and The Mountain (by Haken) will be among my Top 3 of the year.
The third is still to be decided...

My favourite aspect of Coal are the vocals. Simpler songs like Chronic could very easily become boring with a lesser vocalist at the mic, but the vocals on the album just slay and the "simplicity" of certain songs actually helps the vocals to shine :metal
