From Facebook:

Quote
LEPROUS vocalist and keyboardist Einar Solberg checked in with the following comment about the upcoming album: "We're incredibly proud to announce "Pitfalls"! It's the album no-one is expecting from Leprous. When you think you know where it's headed, you'll realize that you're wrong. It's not only by far the biggest production and musical departure we've done, but also the most personal and honest. The album has been written through one of my toughest years, where I struggled with depression and anxiety. No filters, no metaphors, just the truth. They say that writing music is therapeutic, but I would say that it's an understatement. For me "Pitfalls" is the result of 1,5 years of learning how to get through the dark tunnel. The music has been my torch."

Didn't they play a new original song on their last tour as well? Is that even on this album? It sounded like run-of-the mill post-Coal Leprous to me.

Nope, that was Golden Prayers I think, which was basically a b-side for Malina which they didn't put on the actual CD.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

On the last tour, they were also promoting their cover of Massive Attack Angel. I kind of licked this one and also thought that Golden Prayer was top notch .

I expected to listen the new song tomorrow morning but it's already available. I had fear that Leprous would become poppier but I like this single. I am not disappointed like when I listened to Stuck and From The Flame before Malina. This is different but still intense. Chorus is great, I hope it will not get boring soon.

yup called it, trip-hop metal

i like it btw. i don't love it but it's at least interesting
thought the strings sounded surprisingly thin. you could tell me they were synths and i'd be like "yeah i can see that" but i'd be surprised if they didn't get real strings

I got really excited when I saw multiple people say trip-hop on multiple platforms but.. it sounds nothing like trip-hop? BUTTTTT this song is fantastic, nice job Leprous, you might steal the AOTY this time around. I forgot if Malina was my 2017 AOTY but it was definitely a contender.

The first verse actually sounds a looot like Bearcubs’ latest album Ultraviolet, which I love. Synthpoppy af.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

I liked Malina (at least more than most people here, it seems) but it came nowhere near my AOTY, it was too strong of a year: Mastodon, PoS, Lorde, Soen...

Yea I liked it quite a lot. It has the sort of chorus you expect from Leprous (epic),  strings (with an oriental sound to them, which ties in with the album art) and some emotionally raw lyrics. What's not to love?

I don't hear trip-hop, other than that drum beat which comes in around 2:20 (which is probably my least favourite part of the song). I don't think this is really that much of a new direction for them, that's fine with me though, I dig it!

Wow this new tune is epic but I could listen to Einar singing anything and would like it tbh :corn

Yep

I also really like Malina, it's probably my #2!

If the rest of the album is of similar quality than this song, it shouldn't get as much of a mixed response as Malina did. Sounds more inspired.

You can hear the pain and anguish in his singing. Beautiful.

I guess I'll say it. It was just alright. His singing is fantastic as always, the music is just a bit boring in the beginning and ending. The middle with the cool drumming is nice but this is just an OK track for me.

Okay, so. The single is basically a singing-orgy and Einar sounds fantastic. The rest of the instruments really have a minimal role and I hope to hear more from the other band-members on the rest of the album. I think, if it wasn't really clear already, that we can say that Leprous = Einar Solberg. Great single and if the rest of the albums follow the same trend, I think the triphop-influences can truly make this something special. Looking forward to it!
