Half of Malina is great, but there are some weak songs too. Which is basically how I would also describe Coal.

Good to see they're playing the new song on tour.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Almost forgot about their show tonight.

Headlining at a nice intimate venue. $15 at the door. Its gonna be a blast.

Pretty awesome they posted a picture on FB with the caption...

"Playing without @haken_official and @bentkneemusic at the Launchpad in Albuquerque, NM today! They weren't cool enough to join."

Diego Tejeida responded "Tonight's the big one, chaps."

If you have FB, look it up to see just how small that stage is.

Yeah. Too bad its not 21+, its 13+. But that means a bigger crowd.

What a show...they were amazing. So glad I went. The Coma Recovery had technical difficulties, they ended up only playing about 3 songs. Sucks but they were good.

Leprous, was amazing pretty much got their set for the tour. Minus a few songs, I think.

What are the feelings about Bilateral here? Tbh I am not at all into Malina but instead found myself digging deep into Bilateral and really loving it. Right now Forced Entry is maybe my favorite track with the band  :metal

Haha cool. Yeah I haven't really heard much about the band in general but found them when Coal came out and liked that album a lot. It seemed to be the album that got them more attention so I never looked back in their discography. Honestly the album art of Bilateral somehow made me think it wasn't a very ambitious release ... ehrmmm somehow. Then came The Congregation and it was good but not the same level as Coal for me. Finally when Malina came and I didn't fully enjoy it I somehow ended up listening to Bilateral and boom! :eek . It sounds quite different and is just my cup of tea. Didn't know they were hiding that gem in their discography :D

I think Forced Entry is one of the best songs I've heard this year (I know it's not new, but new to me).

Yup, I am in the same boat.  I only know those two albums but I enjoy Bilateral more and specifically think Forced Entry is my favorite track of theirs.  I do enjoy Malina, just not all of it like Bilateral.  Malina has some catchy songs but Bilateral just seems to encompass a much more diverse sound.  I'll check out Coal one of these days.

Bilateral is one of the best prog albums of the decade. Obviously I like the albums that follow it, they have their moments, but none of them are an exercise in stupid, uncontained joy and craziness like Bilateral. It's very harsh and very light at the same time, and it stands the test of time for me.

Been a while since I listened to Bilateral, but it's pretty good. I definitely prefer it to Malina and Coal, but I don't love it as much as Tall Poppy Syndrome. So I guess it's between Bilateral and The Congregation for my second favourite Leprous album.

Glad you wrote this.  Describes why I love this album.  Also, I love Tall Poppy Syndrome.  I tried the other albums, but could not get into the new direction after Bilateral.

A question about Bilateral. It has the most weird album, not even sure I like it. However, what is the album about? :D I have such a hard time understanding any story or if this is a concept album or just individual songs?

BTW started to listen to Tall Poppy Syndrome and daaaaaaamn it's good. Albums before Coal (which I do like) are fantastic and the later albums didn't give me hints for how awesome this band is.

Update from the boys on FB:

"Drums for the first half of Leprous’ new studio album: done! Stay tuned for more updates. #leprous #newalbum"

I'm real curious to see the direction they take this time. Malina never had any harsh vocals, and with the recent cover of Angel, I'm willing to bet a lot of their new stuff is going to be inspired by the likes of Massive Attack and Portishead.

Newest update on their Facebook page:

“The mastering of the new album is received. The new album might be closer than you think!”

Also looks like they shot a music video a few weeks ago. Can’t wait to hear what they have !

Bilateral is a top 10 album of all time for me.

I also love TPS (classic case of first-love. I first heard this album back in 2010) and seeing The Congregation played in full last spring was awesome too.

I like Coal well enough to say I really like it, but it’s not my go-to album from them and probably the one I listen to the least. Malina is fun, but in a different way than their other stuff.

Let’s not talk about Aeolia too much.

1. Bilateral
2. Tall Poppy Syndrome
3. The Congregation
4. Malina
5. Coal
(6. Aeolia)

Good band. Bye!

Bilateral
Coal
Tall Poppy Syndrome
The Congregation
Malina
Aeolia.

Coal is aging really well, I didn't stop listening to it and at the moment I am tempted to give it first spot, but I loved Bilateral too much. In my top 50, I would put Bilateral as #1.

I only have Bilateral and Malina, Bilateral is significantly better.  I'll check out the new album, but if all the tracks sound the same, it probably won't interest me besides the best of those songs.
