He probably won't comment on it, I imagine. He didn't comment much on Angels.

This, assuming he listens to it.  He may simply not be too into prog at the moment.

MP has already "commented" on it via Twitter if you ask me.

Quote
So many thoughts that'd I'd love to share....but I simply can't....so I won't! : ) I'll just say THANK YOU to all that have stood by me...
Linky: https://twitter.com/#!/MikePortnoy/status/109604859367534592

...I mean saying nothing is very respectful– but saying that you're saying nothing when you'd really like to comment almost seems cowardly. (As if he doesn't have the balls to be honest.) "I'll just say THANK YOU to all that have stood by me..."? If he doesn't like it, he can say so. If he genuinely supported them, I think he'd say so. (JP has said he can't say a bad word about MP.)

Say how you feel or just keep quiet. Don't go in between because the dignity you gained by keeping private was eaten up with not keeping private.

...Just my $0.02. No problem to tell MP has burned me as a fan.

Sounds like you're being rather harsh on the guy.

I understand that he's been no saint since leaving, but, would you of reacted this way if James left and refused to comment on a new DT album?

I don't think he wants to say anything considering it's 10 days away still.

When it's Officially released he may comment on it, and if he does I don't think it'll be bomb that everyone is thinking it's going to be.

JLB's role in the band is very different from what MP's role in the band was

Adami, I just want you do know that you're probably one of the five best comedic posters on the board.

I also have super low self esteem and assume that all complimentary statements toward me are thinly veiled passive aggressive sarcastic insults.

But I wasn't trying to be funny with it, I just figured I'd start the thread off on a positive (although completely unrealistic) note before it descended into something horrible.

The thread hasn't become something horrible.  Most views have seemed neutral, for the most part, or at least not overtly negative.

And this is a thinly veiled shot that you think I am a horrible poster.

Probably was, James.   (BTW, I really like that you've brought back the potential 4-dimensional figure.)

i think he will try to make understand to the fans, and all people, that he doesn't care much about it,
the last interview that i see about him saying something about it, he said that he want to hear the new material,   :metal
but in my question "what do you think he will do in thath moment", i'm refering personal, not to much serious, more in the humor way,
but all your answers are ok  ;)

It can't be, because that would be a time paradox. When I wrote those original post, no one else had posted; including you. For that to be a shot at you I would have had to have seen you do something horrible, then go back and time and post that with the intention in mind of blocking you from doing something. I actually just assumed it would become a Portnoy bashing thread, nothing to do with you Jimmy.

Perhaps not, but MP is in a very different position than JLB was in my books.
And yea, perhaps I'm being a little harsh on MP, but his track record for commenting-in-the-shadows and then washing his hand clean when shit hits the fan really disappoints me. (For example, when he liked DT-hating comments on his FB page then acted as if he had nothing to do with it afterwards. He needs to be more careful if he really doesn't support these bashing-DT comments that he apparently "likes") I've defended MP to haters for many years because I think he was straight-up, honest, but still a respectful man. Now watching him not stand by his words in the last year has really bothered me when I've been a huge supporter of DT for 10+ years.

Again, not trying to make this a bash-MP thread, as I wish him all the best with the Mob, etc. But he has disappointed me with everything re:DT since his departure.

Why would he have to pirate the album to listen to it? There are people on this forum who have it legally, MP could easily get it.

I think Mike would be sad listening to the album.  It's only natural he would.  From what we've heard, the songs are pretty awesome and seeing the band succeed and flourish without him would definitely make him feel kinda empty.  I know that's how I'd feel.  If we're still doing the ex-wife or ex-gf analogy, I always feel shitty when I see a long-time ex-gf in a first happy relationship after we break up.  But after that intial feeling fades (it might takes days, weeks or months), I'm sure he can admire the music and maybe even say so publicly at some point.

What you just said makes it even more sad that he keeps ruining their relationship. I think about how cool an MP reunion would be at some point, but it seems that he's already ruined that chance.

MP: "OOH... the new disc is out"
*puts on headphones*
"I bet I can play this!"
*sits down at his kit, starts to play the beginning of OTBOA, does fine until MM's single-handed roll on the ride cymbal*
"Holy Jesus! I need more rock juice and starbucks to keep up with this"
Everything is immaterial. Do you know that reality is immaterial? This is not reality.
In what friggin' universe is a 68 minute long album "short"?

He'll probably listen to it and in the end he'll say to himself "Man... I miss those guys. It should have been me playing those drums. I fucked up." He'll either listen to it again or never listen to it again afterward. After awhile, he'll either get super pissed and say something out of line that will end up making himself out to be the fool, or he'll just quietly be sad and get even more involved in other projects to keep his mind off the fact that he'll never be in DT as a band member again.

But one thing is for certain, Mike Portnoy will always be a great musician, regardless of his mental state and how he makes himself out to be in the eye of the fans and critics.

Even though Mike probably won't admit it at first or ever, I'm sure he is going to love the new DT album deep down inside.

Oh, come on.. I know this was just meant to be a joke but MP is a virtuoso. I get a little tired of seeing these passive agressive comments. I recently saw a video of MM "struggling" (a little, not a lot) to do some of the drum parts in The Great Debate live. It's not like Mangini is miles ahead of MP in anything... They're both easily a couple of the best drummers in the world
