They can make some very good emotional songs:
- Paradise Lost
- The Accolade II
and last, but not least, my fav evah from them:
- Candlelight Fantasia

Their heavy music is good too, but I got bowred of it. Now I need a pause.

And moreover, I think this band is really increasing. They always offer better and better stuff, and that's good for further albums!
Try A Winter's Dream

I don't know too much this album but, gonna try. You mean more part 1 or 2?

By this album you mean the Damnation Game, right?

because that album is fricken awesome. By far my favorite. In a Winter's Dream (1&2), The Edge of Forever, Secrets, Dressed to Kill and the Damnation Game are awesome songs.

Yeah, that's it. I didn't pay too much attention to it cause... it's pretty old and I thought their old stuff wasn't that great. But I'm gonna look at it.

Symphony X are one of my favorite bands. I don't understand the shit they get about being so cheesy when there are so many more cheesier bands out there. SX pull off their fantasy lyrics really well, and in my opinion they don't sound cheesy at all. Who cares if they have a song about Medusa? It's an awesome rockin' song.

My favorite album of theirs is V: The New Mythology Suite, and I'm in the minority that actually liked Paradise Lost. It's one badass album, and although I like Russell's clean vocals more, he pulls off tasteful harsh vocals that don't completely suck... Like most harsh vocals do.

I don't know many people that think Paradise Lost is anything short of a masterpiece.

I wouldn't say it's my favourite album from them but it's up there with the best.

I absolutely LOVE The Walls of Babylon and Revelation.
Currently listening to:

Anathema - We're Here Because We're Here *****
Kamelot - Poetry For The Poisoned **
Les Discrets - Septembre Et Ses Dernières Pensées ***1/2
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing *****
Symphony X - The Odyssey ****1/2

Unfortunately I'm one of those that thinks Paradise Lost is their 2nd weakest album after the s/t debut.

I simply can't get into Paradise Lost. I like the first two songs, but from then on I lose interest. It just sounds samey, nothing I haven't heard before. My favourite album of theirs is V, and I hope their next album is in a similar fashion.

If you like the 2 firsts track you can't not like the rest of the album. Their style is very similar all along the album, sometimes I even think it is too much similar. That's why I rarely listen to this album one shot. I tend to listen to a few songs at the time.

Every song on Paradise Lost is incredibly solid and full of win, but yes, they all do have a same-y feel, and so sadly the album gets old fast. When that happens I just go listen to other stuff and come back to it in a couple of months and it's :metal :metal again.

Hmmm it's hard to choose just one.

My personal favourites: The Odyssey, The Walls of Babylon, Revelation, Through The Looking Glass, Candlelight Fantasia, Fallen, The Edge of Forever.

SX's best song is The Divine Wings of Tragedy.
I'm inclined to agree with you, it is certainly top 5 material. A bit overwhelming in terms of content to begin with, but after a couple of listens it really gels and it's a fantastic song.

SX's best song is The Divine Wings of Tragedy.

It can't touch The Odyssey in terms of awesomeness. But it is still a top 5 song for me.

I guess while we're on the subject, I'll rank my five favorites from SX, in no order:

1. The Edge of Forever
2. Smoke & Mirrors
3. The Odyssey
4. King of Terrors
5. Sea of Lies

This.

I struggle with PL if I'm listening to it all at once.  It's once you separate it out that it becomes good.  The last two tracks are pretty filler though.

Strange, because it's a concept album and meant to be listened to all at once. It is true though. Going from Eve of Seduction to The Walls of Babylon almost killed the album for me

It seems loosely based on it only. I mean, the themes are there, clearly. But I don't think it follows a story.

Oh I know that...It's a concept album in my eyes, and by definition it is also one. It's just not an obvious one like Operation: Mindcrime or SFAM.

Fair enough. I'm glad we could settle this debate a lot easier than some of the other concept album debates I've been involved in. :lol

Yes, and a very good one at that.

Paradise Lost, however, isn't that good and it isn't a concept album. I know that because Symphony X said so themselves. And I'm too lazy too look it up for you.

SX Top 10:

1. The Divine Wings Of Tragedy
2. The Odyssey
3. Rediscovery / The New Mythology
4. Through The Looking Glass
5. Revelations (Divus Pennæ Ex Tragoedia)
6. Ex Oculus Ex Inferni / Set The World On Fire
7. Domination
8. Seven
9. Eve Of Seduction
10. Paradise Lost

Basically, Paradise Lost is my favorite album, and I love all the big long epics they've done as well.

Very fun band.
