Fantastic album. It might be my favorite SX album!

Yeah, this.

I like it but it's, at best, 4th for me behind Divine Wings, Twilight, V.  I hate Iconoclast, this one is right in there with Odyssey, Paradise and Damnation Game.

Great album, just wish the cover art wasn't so terrible.

The cover art does look bad, when I saw the album announcement I thought it looked like a poorly done, low budget cover similar to their debut... but while it looks terrible as just an image, I found the physical CD cover actually looked surprisingly good. It seems the design prioritised the physical packaging rather than an album cover image in digital format - though I'm not sure how great an idea that is in this day and age.

Yeah, it does look better in person, but it's still not good. It would probably be fine if it weren't for the 90's-esque bad CGI faces. They look like placeholders. I'm getting some serious Dance of Death flashbacks looking at this cover.

Agreed, I think the physical package looks great actually (with shiny parts and all). Which surprised me. As a whole, this album is great in every way.

Really surprised that a new SX out of all my favourite artists releasing something this year is a contender for the best album of the year for me. Loved the previous two, but thought they were too homogeneous. So as albums, I did not think they were all that good, but I do find myself often picking some tracks of those and listening to them frequently. This album, however, paces really well and uses all elements I love about SX in a coherent way. It is a great album to give a whole spin and sounds fresh whilst taking many "roots" elements.

I like the production as well, makes me wonder why productions of bands like Blind Guardian, Kamelot (to lesser extent), Dream Theater etc. always feel off in some major way and Romeo manages to produce this in his own studio. It sounds thight and in your face heavy, yet balanced. Though I have to say I haven't listened on high end systems yet and I know the dynamic range is not all that hot, but I really like the overall mix and heavy sound.

Yeah I like the production too a lot. But bear in mind that while he recorded it in his studio it was still mixed by Jens Bogren and the guitars were reamped by another company so the success of the production is not completely in his hands.

It sounds great on earphones as well. Some cool production effects, for example on Charon.

Been listening to Underworld for a week now both with headphones and speakers. Lots of cool tracks with awesome riffs, hooks, instrumental sections, vocals and so on. Love it!
One thing though, I can't help but feel that this album very much feels like Evergrey's Hymns For The Broken, i'm not talking about it sounding alike because they're two very diffrent albums and bands. I'm just saying that as with HFTB Underworld feels very safe and toned down which dosen't have to be a bad thing depending on who you ask. If you ask me though, for this album to reach my top 3 I would like a bit more of the neo-classical and orchestral inspired compositions to shine through like The Accolade, Through The Looking Glass, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy, Egypt, Candlelight Fantasia, The Oddysey and so on. That to me is my Symphony X and why I started listening to them back in the day.

Other than that Underworld is an amazing album!

So far, this is probably one of my least favorites on the album.

Charon is definitely one of my favorites.

That said, this album doesn't have the POP to me of the last two. Save Charon most of the album blends together. It's a solid great album, but I remember more memorable moments from both Iconoclast and Paradise Lost.

Opposite reaction for me.  Lots of standout moments for me.

That's a bit how I'm feeling right now. I'm enjoying the album and it's pretty consistent, but I'm not feeling like any of the songs are gonna be among my favourite Symphony X tracks. Hopefully that changes with a few more listens.

Same here, those two are fantastic. Run with the devil is also up there in my opinion. I also really liked Without you quite a bit at first, but the chorus is kinda getting old already - still a good song, though.
